Banana Leaf Restaurant is a great place if you’re craving authentic Sri Lankan cuisine—with a touch of South Indian flavors as well. The food is consistently aromatic, fresh, and full of flavor. Although it might be a bit of a drive from the DC area, the trip is well worth it for the variety of Sri Lankan classics featured on their menu. (Tip: check their official website for the full menu, as the Google listing doesn’t include every dish they serve.)
One of the highlights is their Sunday all-you-can-eat lunch buffet, which offers an excellent selection of Sri Lankan specialties. The restaurant itself is calm and spotlessly clean, with walls adorned with beautiful Sri Lankan scenery and artwork—creating a warm, welcoming atmosphere.
On our first visit, we tried we tried few of their dishes and found the food to be fresh and very flavorful. On our second visit, we tried the Sunday buffet and were impressed with the quality and balance of flavors—each dish had just the right amount of spice and was wonderfully prepared.
Overall, Banana Leaf is an excellent spot for anyone looking to experience the rich flavors of Sri Lankan cuisine in a clean and relaxing...
Read moreBanana Leaf in Manassas is easily one of the most authentic Sri Lankan dining experiences you’ll find in the DMV. I’ve visited for both lunch and dinner, and each time the food has delivered not just flavor, but genuine nostalgia — it takes me straight back to my childhood in Sri Lanka.
We ordered Lamprais, String Hopper Kottu (both lamb and seafood), and the Black Pork Curry with rice. Every dish showcased deep, complex flavors and high-quality ingredients. The Lamprais was especially impressive — fragrant, layered, and true to tradition — while the String Hopper Kottu delivered that perfect balance of spice, texture, and comfort. The black pork curry was rich, earthy, and beautifully seasoned.
Service can be a little slow, but for good reason: everything is made to order, and Sri Lankan cuisine is intricate by nature. The wait is absolutely worth it.
What really stands out is the tremendous value. For the quality and authenticity you get here, it’s hard to beat.

Read moreThis restaurant was absolutely incredible. I just came back from a vacation in Sri Lanka and was craving the food so badly. Found this gem — the only Sri Lankan restaurant in the area — and it certainly did NOT disappoint. The food was amazing, came out quickly, and the staff were so friendly. Everything we got was phenomenal and brought me right back to Sri Lanka! Portions are generous and we even got to have leftovers to enjoy later on.
We got the fish egg rolls, chicken curry (which comes with 4 yummy curry vegetables), hoppers (they kindly allowed us to get two with egg and two plain), and string hoppers with kiri hodi and coconut sambol. My personal favorites were the fish spring rolls, the string hoppers, and their coconut sambol!
The regular Sri Lankan tea comes in a hot steeping pot and tasted nice, but if you’d like a kick of flavor, I suggest the fresh ginger tea.
Everything was lovely, and I think even warmer lighting in the dining room would make the space feel even cozier. But if you’re in the area (or even if not), this restaurant is...
