Went here with my husband and his sister a couple weeks ago, as we had never tried it but have heard great things. Friday night, wasn't very busy. Interior is really quaint and nice, no qualms there.

Food was bad. Zero authenticity - my husband comes from a Hispanic family, and we've eaten plenty of Latin/Mexican food in our lives. My husband got the carne asada tacos, the beef wasn't fresh and lacked flavor. Corn tortillas were definitely not house-made. I ordered the fish tacos which were marketed as "Beer-battered tacos" which sounded so yummy. The minute the food arrived to our table, I had an instant hunch the fish was a frozen fried fish patty, and it was unpleasant and such a let down. Zero flavor, not fresh at all, honestly not even confident it was beer-battered at all. Felt like a store-bought frozen patty. It was very disappointing, and lacked authenticity.

Service was decent, but it seemed like there was one person doing everything (making even cooking?). Really weird!!

Don't go here, there are so many other better places nearby for Mexican/Latin food. Definitely won't...

!!!VEGGIE TORTA!!!

First time here in 15 yrs, since the opened. I ordered a VEGETARIAN TORTA, something that is NOT on the menu. I was told by one of the brothers (owners/cooks) that no such item exists on the menu and that he hasn’t made one for a guest before... But he’s cool so... He went into the kitchen and went to work! He buttered up a bolillo and si tool a seat... “Lechuga? (Lettuce)” 👍 “Jitomate? (Tomato)” 👍 “Cebolla? (Onion)” 👍 “Guacamole?” 👍 No sour cream/no Mayo (no me gusta)

We have been going to Consuelo's for years to enjoy their delicious offerings, and due to their hospitality and affordability, we chose to have them cater our wedding. Martin and Arturo were communicative and listened to our needs, and made sure everything was taken care of on the day of our event. They brought their own tables and setup, including Horchata and Jamaica Agua Fresca in addition to the taco bar offerings. We enjoyed a variety of taco fillings including beef fajita, shredded chicken, a large amount of mixed vegetables, as well as rice and beans, chips, and all of their delicious salsas. Consuelo's arrived on time for set up, and broke down quietly and efficiently once dinner was done. Our guests RAVED about the food, and many went back for multiple servings. Pricing was beyond fair for the services we received, and we would gladly have them cater any other event in our future. Until then, we will continue to dine in at Consuelo's to enjoy the casual ambiance, have a beer and some tacos, and chat with their...

We arrived during dinner service. Downtown seemed pretty busy but this restaurant was empty. We placed our orders. I asked for water expecting it to be free but they gave us bottled water. Food was good. But the receipt was kind of sketchy. It wasn't itemized and the price was about $20 more than expected. No explanation was given as to how the price got that high. I wouldn't recommend this place for that reason. The food was good. The bathroom was a bit gross. 2 flies on the toilet seat, no TP, almost out of soap. The wall had peeling paint near the sink from some type of water damage. I just wanted to get out of there. It's a shame because the food tasted great. But after the extreme over charge and gross bathroom I wouldn't recommend going here.

Beautiful small place, with an incredible Mexican decor. Been here many times the variety of dishes and flavors will leave you waiting more!! Today I'm having the (TORTA CUBANA) Consuelo's original recipe on the all Classic Cuban Sandwich. With a Mexican touch of course, sourdough bread smothered with beans on one side and guacamole on the other, and in the middle heaven goodness. Ham, cheese and this saucy pork, dressed with lettuce, tomatoes and onions. I'm sure I'm forgetting something, but you have to come and see for yourselves, Delicious 🥰😘

I was feeling homesick for San Antonio and craving good Mexican food. Long story made short, Consuelos delivered. They had my tamarind Jarritos, Al Pastor on the menu, and flan (like the Abuela I wish I had would make). This place will be in the rotation. Bonus: right across the street from the public parking garage.
