Ice cream is always good, service was better then last time, that being said here's my honest opinion from visiting about 2 weeks ago. OK so after some time begin closed this summer for remodeling I was hoping to see big changes inside and sadly I was disappointed. They took out a divider and removed a bunch of inside seating, changed some artwork and did some painting. Nothing major that jumps out at you, and actually took some of the barnyard homie warm feeling away. As for money spent I've got no idea what that all cost but they would have been better off in my opinion spending it out front. It's looks dirty, unkept and frankly disgusting. Not exactly what in ice cream shop should be shooting for. Prices are still on average as are portions, but at least this time the staff didn't have the "deer in headlights" appearance when we ordered. Being from Connecticut and traveling about, every time I come home I cannot believe how we tolerate, or are obvious to dirt and grime on sidewalks and buildings where in other parts of the country things like this are routinely power washed and cleaned. I mean it's everywhere, from Bradley Airport to your corner gas staions. We can do better, soap doesn't cost much and throwing out your trash isn't that hard people. Business owners need to step it up and make sure staffing is adequate to empty the garbage from time to time too. This wasn't a buzy time for the shop either, looked to have 3 or 4 people on at the time, only 2 people sitting inside and the 3 of us sat outside after getting served for close to 20 minutes before anyone else entered the business. You'd think someone might check the trash, maybe I'm...
Read moreThis used to be one of our favorite places to go to for lunch and ice cream. Now the service is lacking, the food quality is lacking and overpriced and you just get less. The environment is just not the same.
You used to get a pickle, chips or roll or Cole slaw and a sandwich for around $7-8. Now you pay $10 for a sandwich with no sides or pickle. I paid $22 for two sandwiches today with nothing else. No drinks or chips or pickle. Just two small sandwiches. The food also is just not as good as if used to be. My grilly goat was not grilled, there was way too much goat cheese inside. I understand inflation is an issue but maybe adjust in different ways? Like not even a pickle anymore? Not even grilling a sandwich? Not even like a small handful of chips?
I gave this place five stars three years ago. The service used to be incredible, the food was fresher, the menu was better, and it's just sad that it has really gone down hill. This used to be the spot we would recommend to everyone and we would come multiple times a month to come eat. Now we rarely come here and I wouldn't recommend it Beyond a scoop of ice cream. Id say at this point, just drop the food and focus on...
Read moreThe ice cream is truly great and has prices comparable to a Dairy Queen. All the ice cream is hard serve and uses dairy from a local farmer's cooperative. Photos of some of the farms and cows decorate every wall, giving the place an atmoshpere I would describe as "cute." There are lots of choices for toppings and the whipped cream comes in several flavors including chocolate. Quality and speed of service is inconsistent but the ice cream is top notch.
The serving sizes are probably larger than you think, especially since the ice cream is more dense than soft serve, so consider going for a smaller size. Ice cream flavors rotate, so you can't count on your favorite being in stock, but you will probably acquire several favorites. The blueberry here is the best you'll find anywhere, and if you like chocolate, see if they have the Muddy Boots. You can order soups or small sandwiches and paninis here as well, but these are not on the same level as the ice cream. There are also pints of ice cream, gallons of milk, and even bags of coffee...
