I went back and forth about this review because I typically try to avoid negative reviews if I can help it. We stopped here on our travels because the reviews were so good. It's got a dive bar feel to it which I normally love. Ordered the fried mushrooms to start as we were starving. They were obviously frozen which is starting to be standard these days. My partner ordered a bloody Mary and the bartender "over poured" so gave him two glasses, ok cool, free extra drink. Except it was not good. We didn't even finish the one so the other got wasted anyway. I'd ultimately rather have one good drink than two that aren't... On to the other food. I ordered the rueben and he ordered the burger special which came topped with peppers. The waitress said "fries ok with that?" which to me implied they came with our sandwiches. We both asked for crispy fries. When it comes out, the fries are soft and have no salt on them. Fine. We salt our fries and dig in. My rueben is delicious despite the disappointing fries. His Burger is meh. Not cooked to the temp he asked them for and the "house made peppers" were clearly just slopped on there from a can. He didn't finish either. When the bill came it was over $60. We looked it over and it turns out our fries were an extra $5.75 each and the soda I ordered was $3.50 (which even at today's standards is high). The food is ok but make sure and double check on things or you end up paying way more than you anticipate for a meal you...
Read moreSo first time in town. Thought I'd stop in for a beer or 2 and some food based on the reviews. Asked to sit at the bar and was told go ahead. I pick a seat and start my wait. A couple of servers walk by and at least look at me to acknowledge that I'm there. 5 minutes go by and still no service. A couple walks in and sits next to me, a couple chairs down. They are served and dinner order taken within seconds. Server looks at me and says so and so with get you. I wait another 5 minutes and a Server comes up and says "oh, you haven't been served yet" or something really close to that. She grabs a towel and starts wiping down tables. So I wait. She then get s almost in front of me and the phone rings. She sidesteps me and starts taking the phone order. An older gentleman walks in and sits on the other side of me at this point. The waitress is now just BSing on the phone with the caller. She looks up, grabs a beer and proceeds to serve the guy next to me that just came in and starts to walk away with phone still in hand. Figured at that point that if they don't know ya, you don't get served so I just left. Will NOT be back even know my new job will have me in town a couple of...
Read moreThis used to be a great place to eat, but the service and food has went downhill. Was charged an 18% gratuity for a lunch order which is insane! All the server does it write down the order, bag it (the kitchen boxes it), and cash you out. You aren't being served a meal. You aren't sitting at their table. They aren't getting you drinks or bringing you what you need. They never greet you and you stand at the bar forever while they go table to table to make sure their customers are good before they ask you your name. they literally hand you a bag and you have to hope your orders are correct. On top of that, you better not ask for ketchup, mustard, or vinegar because they never put it in the bag. This review isn't based on a single visit (except the gratuity) , but is consistent on a weekly basis regardless of who is working. I used to love Uncle John's, but it continues to go down hill. Our two to three times a week orders won't happen anymore and I am sure other customers will follow suit. A $3 or so dollar convenience fee on to go orders would be more suitable, but 18% for you to hand me my food in a...
