Spring Kitchen - Maple Valley — Restaurant in Maple Valley

I strongly advise against dining at this restaurant, especially with family or groups. Our experience involved extremely deceptive billing practices that left us feeling cheated.

Hidden Mandatory Service Fee: The restaurant imposes an automatic 18% "service fee" on parties over 5 people. Crucially, this was NOT disclosed anywhere:

Not on the menu. We checked thoroughly.

Not mentioned by staff when booking or seating us (a party of 6).

Absolutely not mentioned at all by the cashier when we paid.

No Transparency on the Bill: The final bill was presented without any verbal or clear written explanation that this 18% fee had already been added. It was simply buried in the total, easily overlooked.

Result: Double Charging for Service: Unaware of this mandatory fee already included in the bill, we added a standard 18% tip when paying by card. It was only after leaving that we reviewed the itemized receipt and discovered the restaurant had sneakily added the 18% service fee on top of the meal cost. We effectively paid 36% extra – an 18% mandatory fee plus an 18% voluntary tip.

Why this is unacceptable:

Lack of Transparency: Charging a significant mandatory fee without any upfront disclosure (menu, reservation, seating, or point of payment) is deceptive.

Staff Complicity: The cashier's failure to point out the already-added fee when presenting the bill and processing payment is negligent at best, and feels like an intentional tactic to collect extra money at worst.

Let me start out that I am absolutely gutted to write this review. This place has great service and the food is tasty. We had ordered our food and got the appetizer. We got to the last wonton and there was a dead cockroach underneath it. It was absolutely a cockroach, I work for a pest control company. If there's a dead cockroach on a plate then there's likely more in the kitchen. The staff were somewhat apologetic but didn't seem too bothered by the issue. She said they would talk to the kitchen staff. I hate that this happened because they have the absolute best phò and have been my go-to, but serving up dead roaches with food is unacceptable, unclean, and beyond gross. I hope they will get this issue resolved but I'll never eat...

Well, you're greeted at the door by the health department designation of "OK", which is cause for pause. Then inside, no smiles, no hellos, just "are you ready?" as you step up to the counter to order takeout.

Orange chicken was quite good. Very crisp, some pieces overdone but fairly tasty. Crab rangoon was little fishy. Not as sweet as I prefer. Rice was mush but tasted fine. Egg rolls were bland.

And as there was no warm greeting, there was also no warm "thank you" when my order was handed to me. It sucks to be in Maple Valley with no good option for Americanized Chinese food.
