I can't for the life of me find any reason to give this more than one star. I'll even consider a second star as I write this. This was almost the most bizarre service I've ever had. I fly into Horseshoe Bay twice a week, and recently learned of Doc's as the place to go. So I gave it a shot! We walked in and stood there for about 3-4 minutes before anybody approached us. Not at all busy, might I add. And more than a few employees saw us standing there. So then, someone finally helped us, and sat us at a table in the bar area. Then disappeared... After a good 10 minute wait, the SAME lady seats a few people at the table directly behind us. Looks right at me, I very politely say, "Ma'am..." and she walks away. So then I look at the bartender, who just happened to be looking back at me. I get up, ask her who the server is for our table and she asked if she could get us some drinks. About another 10 minutes goes by... still no server, and still no drinks. We WERE fortunate enough to have menus to stare at for these 20 minutes. Not to mention, the lady that seated us??? Has been serving the people behind us the whole time, looking at me at LEAST 10 times. The bartender brings us our drinks, and said, "someone will be here to help you shortly..." well since that is what we were told when we were seated, trust me, I didn't get my hopes up. So I then asked if we could at least put in a food order. The look I received was one of being beyond annoyed... which I guess I was bothering her moment of not having any bar customers. So she comes back a minute later to take our orders, and off she goes. About a minute later, the LADY THAT SEATED US comes to our table... "Have y'all been helped??? Nobody told me I had a table seated in my section!!!" Really....? So I told her that the bartender took our order, and she said she'd go check on it in a few minutes. 15-20 minutes goes by... The server comes to our table and says there is not an order placed for our table! Guess the bartender didn't appreciate me having her do some work and possibly make a good tip. So by that time, it was too late to go somewhere else because we had to get back to the airport, so we placed an order for something that was relatively fast, and had to get it in to go boxes. Which still took another 20 minutes. So, as I typed this, I thought about a second star but just couldn't bring myself to do it. And I certainly cannot give this restaurant a recommendation. Hope Doc's stays afloat. I'll continue going to...
Read moreI took my family out for a nice Sunday drive to Marble Falls so that my wife and daughter could see the beauty of the community, but instead we were met with rudeness. As soon as we walked in Doc’s, heads turned and we could feel eyes piercing our skin, as if we don’t belong. We sat down and the waitress immediately greeted us, and we asked her if they had pizza on their menu, as our daughter had her heart set on pizza. She told us no, and I then explained that she had her heart set on pizza and if it wasn’t a problem I was gonna run across the street and grab her a slice, but my wife and I were still planning to order from the menu. She then explained that the pizza place was a take home and heat up pizza, and I said oh no, we don’t want to do that, I’ll grab a slice somewhere else. She said let me check with the manager. The manager came to our table with immediate attitude because the waitress misinterpreted and told her we wanted to heat the pizza in their oven. I explained, no that was not our intention, we just know our daughter wants pizza and would like to order here, but I will step out and grab her a slice while we eat our fish. The manager said, “ oh no, we can’t allow any outside food to be eaten here!” I reply, “I’m sorry she is a two year old and I doubt she will settle for anything on your menu.” The manager then says, “If we let you do it, everybody will want to do it. Those are the rules, you don’t have to eat her, we’ll give you a minute to decide if you want to eat here.” Then she walks away with the waitress. About 30 seconds later, her and the waitress barge back up to us and she exclaims, “ARE YOU EATING HERE OR NOT!” My wife replies, “excuse me?” And she repeats, “ARE YOU EATING HERE OR NOT?” My wife and I look at each other, confused by the aggression and rudeness, and my wife politely replies, “no I don’t think we will be spending our money here.” It was made painfully obvious that we were not welcome in that restaurant. I don’t know if the manager was just having a bad day and forgot that every employee is an ambassador of the business, or I’d hate to assume it was because my wife and daughter are Jamaican and I am white, or maybe because my wife is 14 years younger than me and looks 20 years younger. I could speculate all day, but the facts are we probably would have ate there had we been met with hospitality, lord knows we are tired of eating Italian so the baby can have pizza, but we were met with absolutely rude,...
Read moreI really used to love this place. Been coming here for years and seen its ups and downs with new management. Recently (a few years back they changed to the current new owners), and the quality went up. Here lately its starting to have that same degrading vibe it had in years past.
The oysters here used to be 5 stars... fresh, and good quality. The last two times I came here they weren't good. Prior to my visit today they were still sorta edible, but today sealed it. I stayed conservative ordering a half dozen of them to try, and the intent to order dozens more if they were good. Me, and my mom's boyfriend both ate one and immediately we spit it out. It tasted sour, and the oyster itself was very hard to chew. Sent it back... Never again.
My chicken fried steak tasted okay this time but it wasn't anything to rave about. Had a side salad that was good, and an order of fried okra that was the best item on the plate. With it I also shared their stuffed mushrooms, and they had an off taste. Not enough to make me send them back, but enough for me to mention.
My mom and her boyfriends meals passed, nothing sent back and all was decent (aside from the oysters and the stuffed mushrooms). Our server was great, and apologetic even though it wasn't her fault. It falls on the owner to uphold standards and ensure quality is maintained.
Overall this birthday dinner for me was very mid, and a heavy fall from the pillar of quality I had come to expect from this place. As it stood before it was a restaurant with a Bar... Now it just feels like a Bar with a restaurant. I may give it another try down the line, but that won't be for a while. Issues like these are not solved overnight, and if my next visit is another strike... I may be writing this one off the same as I did when the restaurant fell off with the previous owners.
Reply to the owner:
Also, while I appreciate a response to any of my reviews by the owner. Asking me to make myself known to ensure better service, is unfair to a general customer. Each person's experience should be good in general, mistakes do happen... But it isn't a fair evaluation to say "hey, I made this review earlier because my food was poor" and then get exceptional quality food. I judge fairly, and I'm not going to rig any visit I make...
