It is with great disappointment that I leave a review like this. Myself, my husband and our child went to IHOP located at 2390 Roll Dr, San Diego, CA 92154 on a Sunday, at approximately 7:10 am and we were there until about 8:15am. We were on our way back home to Arizona from our weekend in San Diego. We ordered and when our food arrived I started eating my food, which was 2 strips of bacon, eggs and crispy potatoes and while eating the potatoes I noticed that there were reddish blonde straight strands of hair on my potatoes and hanging off the right side of my plate, as if someone deliberately put them on my plate. When our waitress Yesenia came back to our table I informed her of this and she apologized and advised me that they will remake my food and discount my food for the inconvenience.
My husband nd child were completely done eating when my food arrived and after I was done eating, I told Yesenia we were ready to pay for our meal, and she told me that her manager said they remade my food, so they aren't going to honor a discount after all. I asked if they could honor it because I was told that they would due to the inconvenience it caused and was told NO.
We were the only African Americans in the entire restaurant, so this seemed very much like racial Discrimination and this matter needs to still be resolved. The manager never came out to apologize about the hair being in my food, or the fact that I had to eat alone since my family were finished with their meal. Several staff stared at us all the while we were there, like we were at fault. Yesenia came back to the table and said her manager told her to tell me that there are no female cooks cooking the food and everyone wears hair nets. We saw several ladies going in and out of the kitchen with no hair nets on, so this sounds like he was trying to do damage control, without acknowledgement and he should have been accommodating to us as we were unsatisfied customers. It doesn't matter what he said because their was hair in my food and it had to come from someone handling my plate before it came to me. I filled out a customer contact form stating I will like for someone to contact me to discuss this matter immediately please and I received no response. I sent an email and said If I don't get a response this time, I will have to take this to social media, news media, write a review or something because this has been a great inconvenience and disappointing situation with many attempts for them to resolve and they have constantly ignored us and it has been well over a year now.
It is 2024 and we are still being mistreated because we are African Americans. I am quite sure you honor discounts for incidents caused by your staff, otherwise the waitress would not have offered a discount soon as she was told and saw the hair on my plate. How can several strands of reddish blonde hair be on my plate and my hair is black and Grey. This is an outrage and should not have ever happened and I feel very disregarded, especially since I first completed a customer contact form on the website, sent two emails, with one being sent to the corporate CEO and now I am writing a review. What a sad and hurtful experience. I hope someone reaches out to me soon, otherwise, my next step is the news media....
Read moreOur night ended with my partner and I both having to put mint gum in our mouths to get the taste out. However, it didn't start there. As we walked in we were greeted by a crowd of employees, rather than then asking us for a moment to decide where we would be seated, we just stood there while they argued about who would be our server. We were seated, but not asked if we would like a table or booth. Instead, they sat us at a fairly small half table half booth, where there was only one setting. My partner had to move the syrup and shakers for there to even be room for our food. After getting our menus and being passed by maybe 10 other employees and 5 minutes later we finally got our drinks. The only reason I'm being generous with the stars is because our server was very polite and attentive. After ordering our food about 10 or so minutes later a family of about 6 came in to be seated. Most of the time I would not have thought twice about it...until they were sat right next to us, with the limited space they had. What was amusing was the fact that practically THE WHOLE place was empty. They had plenty of other places to seat them; and yet, they sat them so close, the older woman was sitting right next to me. I am a people person so I wouldn't have cared so much if this was a shared table establishment (like hibachi). Putting that surprise aside, we looked forward to getting our food. Much to our dismay everything was luke warm at best. We shared the appetizer sampler, which was probably the only ok thing. My partner ordered the Country Fried Steak and Eggs, and had to remind our lovely server that is came with pancakes. She took two, maybe three, bites and couldn't eat anymore. I had ordered the Sweet Cream Crepes, which you would think have more filling or be a bit bigger for almost $8.00 with tax. Most of the time when I go to IHOP the cream in the center is warm or hot, and a bit runny in a way. My crepes were cold and the cream had hardened on the top... not appetizing. The only reason I ate them all was to save face for our sweet waiter. We got two boxes since my partner said she would need to just heat it up herself at home so she could at least eat a little more. Leaving with frowns on our faces, and a weak "Thank you for coming." from all 20 million staff members, we left, being proved wrong for hoping it would be better...
Read moreThis was my first and last visit here. I appreciated being in a booth vs the tables, which were still too close to people. However, I did not appreciate waiting an hour for food. If it weren't for conversations with my friend, whom I haven't seen since March, I would have left after 20 minutes.
We did not sneak in, we were seated. We did not sit down to silverware or a water and our drink order didn't get taken until about 15 minutes after we sat.
Our food orders were taken. No one had any special exceptions that would have required the food to take forever. The waitress came over with her relief and told us that they were making her take her break but the server standing behind her would take care of us (as he was the ONLY other table that just sat over there)
We watched him actively tend to that table and never once coming our way, within 10 minutes, they all had all of their food.
Our waitress came back to us asking how everything was. What? Where's our food?! We're now waiting over an hour for food. We ask for a manager and the one who (finally) took our drink orders comes to apologize and say that she would give us a discount (???) and that the food will be right up.
So our waitress comes back and I tell her that she isn't to blame. She went on break and the waiter never came to us, didn't even look our way. We didn't even know his name. I asked what happened and she says that someone moved the ticket from the window. They barely had a crowd and of course it was not operating at full capacity so that seemed highly suspicious.
We then had another manager who came by and apologized and said the waiter was unaware that he'd be taking over. But he was standing there with our waitress and two other people there when she said she was going on break. There was only TWO tables over there! You can look at both at the same time and see that one has food and one doesn't. By this time, even that table was concerned. They realized how quickly they got their food and said they thought we were just chatting afterwards. Even after management made excuses for him, we still never saw him. No apology from him at all. But that manager did take care of the bill and invited us to come back after I told her this is my first and last time visiting. She asked to give them another chance because this was an unusual...
