Let me start by saying I am so incredibly Thankful to have this restaurant in my town!
Incredible food, great quality, competitive pricing, awesome portion sizes.
I always leave with enough for another meal.
I cannot say enough good things about this little restaurant- it has a more casual feel, basic tables/seating.
HOWEVER there is nothing basic about their food.
The owner is wonderful and always makes sure everyone is attended to.
She deals with people’s spice preferences with kindness- I once saw a table return the same dish 3 times saying it was too hot. Southern IL taste buds vs Authentic Thai cuisine can clash- but she handled it with care and did all she could to please a seriously picky person.
We have another Thai place in town and the only thing I can say about that place is the atmosphere of the other seems a little more upscale. Though, the food and quality doesn’t match it or their portions/prices.
I have recently heard a group of people playing critic and claiming which is the, “best Thai place” being this place on the IL side of STL—- and I used to live right next to it. Now- it’s decent, but it’s definitely not the best.
Baan Thai would give them a run for their money.
I am not using names of the other places as I am not trying to cause any issues for anywhere else—
My point is- Baan Thai can hold its own and I am and always will...
Read moreSo….. I have given Baan Thai a lot of service over the years. They have always been fantastic until last night. They lost a very faithful customer. I eat lunch and dinner there all the time. I called in for carry-out and they told me it would take 10-15 minutes. I showed up 20 minutes later and had to wait an additional 25 minutes for my order. They usually provide clear lunch and dinner portion sizes that are noticeably different, but not on this occasion. I wasn’t happy with the price they quoted me over the phone originally for ONE order of fried rice…$19. However, I was hoping for a larger dinner portion size. That’s not what I got. They brought me this tiny container with a lunch portion size or rice. I brought it to the young lady’s attention and she argued with me that that was their regular dinner portion size. Mind you, I eat here all the time and know the difference between the portion sizes. For $19 dollars for one order of fried rice that took them a sum total of 4 minutes to make, I better have rice seeping out the container! Nope! Instead she argued with me and made me pay 19 dollars for some rinky-dink lunch portion. This is how they treat their faithful customers, so I will not return. I’ll give my business to Thai-D who actually appreciates their customers. Come-on people! Do better and stop overcharging your...
Read moreTL;DR: 3.5 stars for food. 0 stars for customer service. I visited the restaurant to grab dinner with Mom and sister. We ordered the appetizer platter, Drunken Noodles, Fried Rice, and a Thai Ice Tea. The Fried rice was good drunken noodles were ordinary and some of the items in our platter were good (spicy chicken patty) while some were bad (chicken satay). The experience was made worse by our server who was extremely rude. She was slamming plates on the table and didn't look particularly happy to serve us. Then a strange incident happened. She initially placed a bowl of noodles in front of us. We were about to start eating when she just came and took the plate away without explanation. It turns out she got the order wrong. I totally understand that mistakes like this can happen. But there was no apology, not even simple courtesy to explain what has just happened. After we were almost done eating, she just came with the check without asking if we wanted dessert. At this point, it almost felt like she would be happy to see us leave the restaurant. Overall, the poor customer service made me feel very...
