My dad and I have been excited to finally be able to go out and eat since we both got vaccinated! Since we had the Italian experience, we decided to go to Carlos O’Kelly’s (on Armar Dr) for Mexican.
We didn’t even know if they were open when we pulled into the empty parking lot. Yet when we got inside, I had to look around to find someone to seat us. When I did, she wasn’t welcoming, she was dressed unprofessionally and without a mask, and she sounded like it was inconvenient when I pointed out the table (in a completely empty restaurant) that I wanted to sit at.
Generally, they bring you menus and chips right away and take your drink orders… Not here. Not this time. We had to wait for them to bring us menus. Another wait to bring us chips and salsa - I had to ask! (Again, even though we were the only ones there.) When we gave our drink order, we had to wait a long time for that - while eating our chips and salsa without anything to drink.
The server wasn’t wearing a mask and not social distanced. No smiles. No friendliness. I felt like I was bothering her. My dad’s very patient and not a complainer, but he was quite unhappy with this experience! When I left there, I told him that These guys are definitely going to get a review!
The lime cilantro rice wasn’t done. It was crunchy and flavorless. The reason I’m leaving TWO stars is ONLY because the (rest of the) food was delicious, even though we had to wait a very very very long long long time to get it after we ordered it! They must’ve had to call the cook in.
When we were ready to leave, I had to SEARCH for anyone for a bag for our leftovers. The entire experience...
Read moreThis is the first time I have ever posted about any restaurant any where. This was the WORST service my wife and I have ever had anywhere. The waitress walked by us five times before we had to ask her again for our waters after she had already asked us if we wanted something to drink. Had to ask her midway through the meal if the margarita was coming? It came, like water, all melted. She was so rude my wife was afraid she would spit in our food if we said anything so we sat quietly and WE tried to be extra nice seeing if that would help her get out of being so rude with us and give us some service. Did not work. She messed up the order. She was so unbelievably rude. I wanted to leave the restaurant midway through the chips! WE blasted this on Facebook to at least stop our friends from going to this location. If anything I think if you read this go anywhere else! I am telling you stay away especially if you like getting a little respect from the people who are supposed to be somewhat courteous. This was the first time I have ever felt compelled to say something using social media. Always thought it was a way for restaurant competitors to slam each other to drive patrons away. Now that I am posting and felt compelled I think I will actually read these client reviews before dining and take it with more then a grain of salt! PS we paid our bill and left without saying anything felt it pointless when you see the woman who you thought in charge wearing the same ugly face our waitress had on. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE AT THE...
Read moreBeen a while since we had eaten at Carlos O'Kelly's. Always loved their chips & salsa, but the chips must have changed; good chips but very salty. Chili conqueso with chicken was excellent as was our entries. Service was great when they came by to ask if we needed anything.
BEWARE: we left a 20% tip. Just got our monthly credit card statement and the totals did not match up. $5.00 had been added to our tip and was reflected in the total. When I stopped to speak with the manager, she retrieved the original merchant copy. You could see someone had changed what was a "2" to a "7". The new "7" was a much darker pen line like it had been gone over more than once. You could also see that a small "0" had been written in aside on the bottom of the "1" to make it look somewhat like a "6" in the final total line.
The manager explained that the person couldn't make out the "2" on our tip line. I won't argue about the legibility of the original number because the "7" was written over it, but you could see additional pen markings that would tell you the number was not a "7" at the bottom of the "7" line. Subtracting the tax included total from the receipt total would have been another way to determine the tip value if it wasn't legible.
The manager handling this issue when I stopped in was professional and refunded our $5.00. Didn't offer much of an apology but did backup her employee/s.
For this reason, we will not return to Carlos...
