Sunny Side Cafe — Restaurant in Marlborough

I would give the atmosphere a -5 if I could…. I'm so sad I'm writing this post but DO NOT COME THIS PLACE especially if you're of color. me and my fiancé have been coming here for while now I wouldn't say we're regulars but we do try coming once a week. I wanted my family to come and try this place out because we love their food( And go figure it's made by hispanics and that's probably why we love it so much) I loved their food so much I wanted to bring MY WHOLE FAMILY. I'm Hispanic since we’re being racist I know y'all going to agree that us Latinos have large families. Anyways, our usual waitress wasn't there today and we had a waitress who seemed to pay attention more to other customers and ignored us. I think she was trying to be "nice" by making small jokes but we were a little uncomfortable. I'm not sure if our usual waitress is like that and is only try to tolerate us but at least she tends to us the same as everyone else. We love her. Anyways that was our first problem, the second was we had a racist couple behind us the man was pretty normal but they pretty much came in 20 mins after we started eating and they looked like they shoved their food to go and tried to get out of there as quick as possible and then the man's wife? (I think) walked past our table behind her husband and FULL BLOWN i can't make this up people FULL BLOWN GAVE US THE MOST UGLIST LOOK EVER a look of disgust...... As a Hispanic who grew up in the countryside l'm used to micro aggressions NEVER had I ever had someone look at us like we were nothing I wish Thad recorded it. All we could do was laugh... I think that made the whole restaurant feel uncomfortable because while we were leaving once our waitress got her tip (because even though she treated us kind of weird we still thought she made an effort and I'm usually never conferential so whatever) she almost didn't say thank you back after we said have nice day. I don't know what was up with that. Their costumers are so rude another one kept staring at my fiancé who's half black and Dominican. Getting stared at is pretty weird especially because Marlborough is pretty diverse now. I won't be bringing my entire family it was my brothers first time and they never want to go back. I'm so embarrassed I hyped this place up for them just to go and be made felt uncomfortable. Food was good. Like always if you're a person of color go at your own risk. I've been to 5 stars to that tiniest dinners. The way this dinner styled restaurant handled that disrespect we received by having a nice conversation with them... made my stomach turn. And I thought the owner was nice but I wished someone said something or came and asked us if there's anything they can do. I don't mind being the only person of color there but if you have comments or stares keep them to yourself ITS 2024 PEOPLE SKIN IS SKIN we legit breathe and bleed the same. There's no way the people of color should be made feel like they should clutch their purse. I hope the owner sees this and reaches out. Just the way their costumers and and waitresses are is...

I wish I had taken her name down ! She’s very rude and by reading all these reviews I see people been having the same problem and im 100 percent sure it’s the same lady everyone is talking about ! Like if you’re that miserable don’t work as a waiter! My friend and I were placing our order and she’s like anything else I’m like we can start of with the pancakes first and then see if we want to order something else later she was so annoyed by that rolled her eyes and walked away ! She brought over the check and said no rush which is fine mind you it wasn’t busy at all. She clearly saw me take out my card down and was to busy chit chatting and took 10-15 to come get the check.. We went over to Sunny Side today for breakfast and there were a few things that were out of line and not within the current restrictions for restaurants during the pandemic. First the tables were too close together. Not even 5 feet apart at areas. Next we saw THE COOK and at least the other employees behind the counter WITHOUT MASKS. In addition, there is zero enforcement of guests wearing masks (as guests were entering and roaming around without masks) but what would you expect if they're not even following the mandates themselves. This was disappointing and won't be back...
