The place: Inside, there's room for maybe 15 people? There are some tables that have half-booth seats (one of my favorites), a couple floating tables and a couple full booths. There is so much original art. On the way to the bathrooms, you can see some lovely sketches of cats and chalk art on the walls. My favorite art piece is three lucky cats holding up a colorful fish; it makes me smile so much.
The location: From the outside, it looks like it would be a counter service fast food place, but don't let that fool you! Teriyaki Bowl shares a parking lot with the Starbucks and Game Stop. It can be a little tight, but we've never had a problem finding parking.
The food/drink: Thai tea - sweet and refreshing. You can order with boba if you like, but just ice was good for me! Eggplant lover stir fry - this past trip to Teriyaki Bowl, there was a special that featured eggplant. I have a weakness for eggplant and this did not disappoint. The sauce was flavorful and the eggplant was perfectly cooked. I had a choice of protein, so chose tofu which is cooked so it's beautiful on the outside and creamy on the inside. And y'know, white rice isn't anything special often, but something about the white rice was perfect for what I was craving. It was truly perfect. Ube cheesecake - taken to go, the cheesecake was swoon worthy. It was a perfect portion. Highly recommend.
*I had a 3 spice level on my first visit. I'm not a slouch (I don't think?) when it comes to spice, but 3 for me was just on the edge of discomfort. A 2 spice level was perfect. Don't be afraid to be humble because they are SERIOUS about their spice.
The service: Lovely. It's very clear that Teriyaki Bowl is a popular Marquette staple, but that only enhanced how impressed I was that we got personal attention. Everyone we interacted with was cheerful, kind, and welcoming.
Next time: I need to get something with noodles. I had a chow mein before and loved it, they're...
Read moreWe are visitors here, spending a lot of time and money in Marquette. We love it here and my husband graduated from Northern years ago. We camp often in the UP. First time eating here and I was disappointed in the amount of food received. My son got the Beef Teriyaki Bowl, we paid extra $ for more beef, so $16.50. He liked his pretty well but it was a very small amount, not enough for a growing 14-year old boy! I ordered the combination starter which was $15, way too costly for what you get. 3 Egg rolls, more like tiny spring rolls…not egg rolls, 2 fried pot stickers and 3 crab rangoons, were just so-so. Totally not worth $15. I asked for sweet and sour and yum yum sauce and she said it was in the box…we found one small container of sweet and sour, more sour tasting and runny, and a small container of soy sauce. NO yum yum sauce. They gave us one fortune cookie and then wanted me to tack on an $18% or larger tip…for take out. No thanks. Our bill before tax, etc was $33, with the $4 tip I left, $37 total… not going back there. Sorry, but with this economy , when people chose your eating establishment this day and time, and pay that much for take-out, you should do your best if want them to come back....
Read moreA bit of back story. We stopped in Marquette about 12 months ago and happened to stop into Teriyaki Bowl as a random pick. It was some of the best food that we have had, so good that we actually planned the 8 hour drive back up to Marquette this year to get some again. Something has catastrophically changed since last time we were up here. We ordered a pork bowl, beef bowl and sides of meatballs and fried pot stickers. Both the beef and pork were cooked until being so dry they were hard to eat, the only seasoning being sesame seeds (we ordered mild heat). The pot stickers were okay at best, but the dipping sauce was extremely bitter. The meatballs where very dry, overcooked and tasted of off meat like they had been sitting out for several hours. The only thing that we were able to eat were the 4 pot stickers, the rest we had to throw away. $38 for a meal that ended up in the trash was very disappointing, and quite honestly made both of us feel stupid for making the trip back up from Grand Rapids...
