Okay I might be just a little biased on this one because my family is the family that named this restaurant family kitchen when we owned it back in 1974. When we owned it most of our business was to the refineries we had a contract and they Kate and we cater to the refineries I don't think they do that anymore.
I ate breakfast there the other day with my mom and my sister it was actually all three of us loved arf are plates I had eggs benedict my sister had a Mexican style omelette. They seem to have expanded their menu a bit because it's usually just your basic you know bacon and eggs ham and eggs but say must be expanding their menu. When we owned it it literally was my uncle was ran by her family that's why it was named family kitchen. It is the only coffee shop style restaurant left in downtown Martinez their specialty type restaurants but there's no just basic email bacon out coffee shop. All the other ones DiMaggio's and see if there was some really good ones a long time ago but there's just not enough business for those kinds of Coffee shots cuz it's just breakfast and lunch. But family kitchen still there and great Burgers great practices just a really...
Read moreService was astoundingly slow, and it wasn’t busy (about half the tables were empty/available). Interior is cute, definitely an “at home” feel, my food (sandwich w/ fries) was yummy, but not worth the nearly hour-long wait (after ordering. It was also a 20-min wait just to get coffee to the table).
The servers seemed sleepy/groggy and distracted, talking to their friends/family who were eating there, instead of attending to other guests, it was so uncomfortable.
Also, acoustics inside are terrible. One of their server’s family was having breakfast, which is great/fine/cute (again, very “at home” feel), but the kids screaming, stomping, and running around and behind the counter….it was so chaotic.
Definitely won’t be coming back. Very unfortunate experience. I couldn’t bring myself to leave more...
Read moreWhen I travel I always seek out places the locals eat. Sal's is such a place. The decor is not fancy and the coffee mugs do not match, but the food was good and definitely reasonably priced. There is table or counter seating available. I liked that they offer half portions on certain items, a choice of home fries or hash browns and a choice of bread, including biscuits and gravy as an option. Kids eat free on Saturdays and the street parking is also free on the weekends. The waitress also offered to substitute the ham in the eggs Benedict with avocado or spinach for my vegetarian daughter. If you like places like this, give...
