Habanero Mexican Grill — Restaurant in Martinsburg

Man, I hate to do this but this is not the Habanero I remember. It had been quite some time since I went there. Husband requested it today while I was out and was conveniently across the street at Blue White Grill.

To start, the lady making my order could not have been more displeased by my presence. While she wasn’t outright rude, she was absolutely annoyed. I had a simple order (steak bowl, no special requests) and only asked three questions (can I do a bowl or just a burrito, can I have veggies too, and do you have cilantro). I couldn’t see any of the food or the various toppings, which is perfectly fine, but I wouldn’t have had to ask and “inconvenience” her. I even tried being nice and making a little small talk and no response. There were 4 people eating and only me in line, so it wasn’t like they were slammed and I was being that annoying customer asking a few questions while trying to order. The younger gentleman working seemed a little more pleasant - thanking me for coming in and for my order.

The queso is what I remember. It’s so cheesy! It’s also not spicy so that’s why I like it (the only reason this isn’t a 1 star review). Some may not like it because it’s a little different than the typical Mexican restaurant queso. It’s not as white and not spicy. However, for an order of chips and queso, it was 8.50. I about died. I’m not sure if she charged me incorrectly but the chips don’t come with the queso, according to how she entered it, so it was 5 for queso and 3.50 for a moderately small bag of chips.

Husband reported the bowl was “just ok.” Steak was very dry and old looking, and I got there 20 minutes after opening, and delivered to him within 15 minutes.

For $20 for a burrito bowl and chips and queso, I’m not sure I will be returning. I want to support local businesses, especially in times like this, but food and service can’t be that subpar. I’m honestly more likely to come back when the service is friendly and good vibes even if the food is...

I had not eaten here in over 10 years and unfortunately my most recent experience reminded me why. I usually do not leave negative reviews, because I know it takes a lot of good reviews to bring the ratings back up, but I will never waste my money at this place again. I love to support small businesses and avoid chains when I can, but I would 1000% go to Chipotle or Taco Bell over Habanero.

I ordered two bowls to go, one with chicken and one with double steak. My total for the bowls (no sides or drinks) came to around $27. The chicken was tender, but absolutely flavorless. It needed some salt, pepper, something to spice it up, it tasted like nothing. The steak was grisely, fatty and not tender at all, very tough. I had asked for extra sour cream and cheese on both bowls and it was extremely minimal. The rice was bland, no flavor either. I was very disappointed on the lack of flavor and taste. On both bowls we had the cilantro, jalepeno, onion, pico, lettuce, verde sauce, beans, sour cream, cheese and none of these items helped flavor the meat and rice.

I know this company uses all fresh ingredients and I believe nothing is frozen, but the bland taste of both bowls unfortunately makes me never want to return.

The younger woman who greeted me and made my bowl was kind, but an older gentleman with glasses was very awkward and said nothing to me when I was checking out at the cash register. Very odd...

I wouldn't even give this place a star at all. Faxed an order to them from Hospital staff, it was 10 orders. Called and Cora the manager said we couldn't order if it was separate orders. So we called back and told her our ATM was down at the hospital and she said that was fine we could use our cards. So a staff member leaves to pick it up and when she gets there Cora(the manager) says I told you you couldn't use a card said she was too busy to ring it up, there was only 1 customer in line. She said she meant we could use one card to pay for the whole order. We asked if she could do it this one time and she said normally I would but I'm just too busy...I'm shocked at the way our staff member were treated, and to waste all of the food, they had already prepared the food. I even said why would you want to waste all of that food surely we are here and can pay, and it was over 100$ in food. She was so rude to us, and the hospital staff. Our floor will no longer be ordering...
