Stopped in at Clyde's Chevy Chase a couple of months ago and again today, August 10, 2021, for take-out lunch. During the previous visit, I ordered the "Rachel" sandwich -- roasted turkey breast, Thousand Island dressing, Swiss cheese, and coleslaw on toasted rye bread that came with fries for $16.99... so I expected it to be super good. Unfortunately, when I got home and excitedly sat down to eat, it was super bad: no Swiss cheese or any other cheese on the turkey; only a very thin film of dressing, hardly anything; zero coleslaw on the sandwich -- where it was meant to be (no coleslaw on the side either, so, not a minor mistake) -- and the fries were wet and mushy. What an upsetting waste of $16.99. It wasn't a feast; it was a failure.

Thinking my previous take-out order may have been a one off, since my in-restaurant meals at Clyde's Chevy Chase had always been good in the past, today I tried take-out again. I clearly explained my last visit food fail to the host stand gentleman -- who promised me they'd do better today -- and I ordered for take out a medium-rare hamburger with tomatoes and lettuce, a side of "well-done" fries, and a garden salad, for a grand total of $24.36+tip. While the fries were much better cooked and tastier than last time and the hamburger absolutely delicious -- haven't yet had the salad but looks like my exclusions were followed and, as requested, the dressing is on the side -- for $24+ the burger was small and there should have been more than only one thin slice of tomato and only one piece of lettuce. I mean, really?

Clyde's is a decades-long staple in the DC area, and I'm glad it survived the first wave of the pandemic, but if it continues to cut back on the amount of food provided for the ridiculously incongruous amount of money paid, whether eat in or take out, it may find itself without a vaccine to save it. Here's hoping it...

This place has gone so far downhill over the years. I grew up in this area. As a kid, going to Clyde’s was a treat and super exciting. The staff were all nice and great with kids. The train going around the top of the restaurant was the coolest thing ever. The restaurant was clean and fancy and I always dressed up. I remember the food being really good as well. Now, this place is less than good. The service is horrible. There are a few bartenders that are great and that’s about it. When you walk in, there are always like 5 people at the hostess stand and half the time, none of them greet you because they’re too busy socializing. You had to make your presence known. When you’re seated, you’re probably going to be waiting a while before the server comes. You’re going to want to take that time to figure out what you want so you can order when the server comes. Otherwise, you’ll be waiting a while before they come back. Don’t be surprised when the server comes back when they should be bringing your food to tell you that they are out of one(or more!) of the dishes you ordered. Prepare to wait another hour for your food. Most of the time, the food isn’t even mediocre. It’s bad. If you’re going for just a drink, hopefully you get one of the good bartenders because if you don’t, good luck. They don’t seem to know what they’re doing and don’t seem to pay attention to customers they aren’t familiar with. It’s also almost always crowded at the upstairs bar but the downstairs bar always seems to be closed. I so badly wanted to give this place chance after chance because of all the childhood memories and nostalgia but, after repeated bad experiences, I just can’t. I don’t recommend this place to anyone anymore. There are other Clyde’s locations that...

I came for brunch at 2PM on a Sunday (Father’s Day). There was no wait, so I was seated immediately. It took a while - about 10 minutes- for my server to greet me, although she did bring water and take my order promptly. The decor is so fun! Americana and all things planes, trains and automobiles. They have a toy train that operates on the ceiling. It’s a large venue, so it was loud but tolerable - very similar to Cheesecake Factory in size and dining experience. The food - just ok. Overall assessment is that it’s overpriced for the quality. - Crab soup: for being $8.99, it had very generous chunks of crab meat! However, it was more of a chowder than soup. It was extremely heavy and very cream-based, which unfortunately overpowered the crab flavor. - Cheeseburger sliders: served cold, cheese was not melted, and they were overcooked and very, very dry. Definitely not worth ordering. - French toast: The turkey sausages were great; caramelized on the outside and perfectly cooked. I loved the fresh cream, strawberries, and 100% maple syrup. However, the French toast itself was lukewarm and it didn’t seem like it had been well-coated in the egg mixture before cooking. - Brownie sundae: best part of the meal. I opted out of the chocolate sauce. The brownie was served warm with two generous scoops of vanilla ice cream, fresh cream, almonds and a cherry. Definitely suitable to share between 2-3 people. Glad I tried it, but I won’t be coming back.

We held a weekend afternoon reservation. The establishment was comfortably occupied, providing an ideal ambiance. Our host provided professional and courteous seating, placing us advantageously to observe the elevated train, which our server informed us operates on a seventeen-minute interval. While our host inadvertently omitted the children's menu, and a minor discrepancy arose regarding server assignments, resulting in a slightly extended wait for service, our primary server promptly rectified the situation and provided immediate bread service. Our party enjoyed crab cakes, steak fries, and salmon, all prepared to a high standard; the fries were perfectly cooked. Our servers consistently attended to our needs without being intrusive, ensuring our water and beverages remained replenished. The unique atmosphere evoked nostalgic childhood memories of model trains and airplanes, enhanced by an air of sophistication. We highly recommend this establishment. While a minor service delay occurred, we attribute this to an isolated incident and intend to revisit. Sincerely.
