There was this place in Baltimore, next to Camden Yards where the Orioles play called Geppi's Entertainment Museum. It was a history of pop culture, specifically comics, movies and all the related collectibles, specifically toys. Walking into Eternia Dreams gave me a similar feeling. The difference is that you can buy any of the artifacts, relics and treasures at Eternia.
For a kid that grew up in the 80s and remained a fan of toys and action figures throughout his life, Eternia Dreams is like diving into a warm pool of nostalgia. "Oh, I had that. I remember those. AH! The USS Flagg?!"
While He-Man and Masters of The Universe is their sweet spot (hence the name,) they have a bit or a bunch of other properties, like G.I. Joe, McFarlane/Spawn, Marvel Legends, etc. Though, the inventory is constantly changing and the store is continually evolving.
I've made the hour-drive from Baltimore City three times and each time has been a wonder. I'm looking for G.I. Joe for the most part. And they never disappoint. I always walk away with some to fill the gap in my collection, either reacquiring something from my youth or picking up something new that I never had (most recently that was the Dragonfly.) I try to focus on 1983-87 Joes, but they make it hard. M.A.S.K.? TMNT? Thundercats?
Waking in the door at Eternia Dreams is stepping up to the ledge of a very slippery slope and the problem is that their prices are too reasonable. I've seen what people charge on eBay, at other stores or conventions/shows. They are on-par with fair market value or, in most case, less than.
The staff is friendly and welcoming. It gives you the sense of a family business. That care and passion is immediately felt.
I've followed them on Facebook, where I originally learned about the store. I don't tend to do the online auctions, but they do them regularly. I'll watch from time to time. It's entertaining, almost in the same way as The Toys That Made Us on Netflix. They are building a real, positive community...
Read moreThey should charge admission, it's like visiting a toy museum. I could easily spend hours just looking at everything. The majority of the toys are themed around 1970 to present but with a large percentage focusing on GI Joe, Star Wars, Star Trek, Funko Pop, and of course He-Man.
There are also sections for WWE, Alias, Starting Line-Up, Marvel and DC, ReAction, Spawn, basically any toy line that was pop culture and had action figures. There were even some loose Disney's The Black Hole action figures next to some loose Daggits. The most amazing part was they had two, not just one, but two GI Joe USS Flagg aircraft carriers, possibly the largest action figure accessory to ever exist (see my pics).
The also have a coming section, many ships and accessories for action figures, and a lot of vintage 80s and 90s stuff that makes it feel like you are visiting someone's private collection.
I saw many reviews mentioning the prices being high. I disagree. Everything that I looked at had a price tag matching almost exactly what I was expecting as a collector. Barely any deviation from any other brick and mortar stores I have visited previously. I did notice some of the negative reviewers are big fans of a competing comic place, something to consider when looking at reviews.
I do with there were more vintage toys. Like Star Trek TOS, Star Wars episode 4, Battlestar Galactica TOS, (though I found two loose Daggits) etc. I realize they are a store and not specifically a museum, but I would love to see the Dune toys from the 80s, like the sandworm, etc. They have so many awesome loose toys to look at, but I was thinking about Dune when I went to visit.
Overall a wonderful place. Watch "The Toys that Made Us" on Netflix and then visit the store. Knowing the background of the He-Man, GI Joe, and Star Wars toy franchises adds so much to...
Read moreWe (my son & I) recently found Eternia Dreams about 2 months ago and have visited the store many times since. We’re about 40 minutes away, so that tells you how awesome this place is. We’ve visited vintage & collectible toy stores all over the DMV and across Florida, this is by far the BEST one, there is no comparison. The store is huge, I believe around 9,500 sq ft and they have just about every 80’s/90’s/00’s toys you can hope and dream for, truly incredible and honestly mind blowing. The inventory is expensive compared to others we’ve visited however, the selection is unreal. The staff and owner Allen is SUPER friendly. Everyone is patient, knowledgeable and very accommodating. The experience is always great and it’s easy to spend a couple of hours here. Unfortunately, the store is located in a dilapidated and nearly dead mall, so not sure how long it’ll be around. I know that Allen is working on another location. If you are in your 40’s or 50’s or a toy collector, this place is euphoric nostalgia heaven. They do live sales via socials and also have celebrity visits and signing events. I highly recommend visiting Eternia Dreams, it does...
