We’ve been longtime fans of Yama Sushi Bar, often ordering takeout and already familiar with their fantastic menu and impeccable quality. Last Friday, my wife and I decided to dine in, and we’re so glad we did! We arrived around 8:20 PM on a busy Friday night, yet luck was on our side—we were seated quickly despite the packed house. To start, we indulged in our all-time favorite appetizer, the Dinosaur Egg—a must-try for anyone visiting! For our main course, we stuck with our usual pick, the Love Boat, a beautifully presented sushi and sashimi platter that never disappoints. The course begins with a fresh salad, followed by comforting miso soup. Then, the star arrives: an elegant wooden boat filled with three pieces each of five different sushi varieties, three pieces each of five sashimi selections, and two delicious rolls of our choice. The display is simply stunning. One of the standout qualities of Yama is their incredible commitment to freshness. I’ve never once encountered even the faintest fishy smell—everything tastes pristine and well-balanced. Their sushi differs slightly from traditional Japanese or Korean styles, as the wasabi isn’t placed beneath the fish on the shari the rice. However, this actually works in favor of customization since there are generous wasabi portions on the boat, allowing diners to adjust to their own preference. Our experience was thoroughly enjoyable, and honestly, it makes us want to come back even more often! Whether you're a sushi aficionado or just looking for a consistently great dining spot, Yama delivers on quality, taste, and presentation

My wife and I moved to Maryland from NY. We were friends with the owners of a local sushi restaurant called Wild Ginger. With the bar set high we’ve searched for a sushi place that was a close second and received recommendations from people in our neighborhood. Of all the places we’ve tried, Yama has reset the bar (DO NOT let the location discourage you). They far exceeded our expectations. Our waiter Peter was phenomenal, quite honestly the best waiter we’ve had anywhere. He was incredibly knowledgeable about my wife gluten allergy (medically diagnosed celiacs disease) and was able to accommodate her across the menu making her experience there 10000000000x better than anywhere else we’ve ever gone (she usually has to explain every detail of her allergy to the wait staff and gets a feet in the headlights look where ever we go; Peter at Yama beat her to the punch!). Highest recommendation, if you go ask for Peter. He works 6 days a week and his dedication to his job is obvious. If you tell Peter what you like and give him good honest feedback he will know exactly which way to steer you and it won’t be wrong. He’s also incredibly friendly, personable, and has a great sense of humor. The sushi was so good I forgot to take photos but managed to take one of the many orders we placed.

Not only is Yama the best sushi in town (yes, better than Joss! a thin layer of rice so that the sushi fillings are the highlight), but their CUSTOMER SERVICE is just ABOVE AND BEYOND. Because they're so popular, weekend nights are often quite busy. There have been a few times that I've gone in to pick up my order to find that they need another 10 to 15 minutes to finish my sushi. Both times they've been behind, they've been very apologetic and included something I didn't order. The first time, they gave me a piece of cheesecake. The second time, they gave me a Yama sweatshirt! This is not a promise that if your order is delayed, you'll get a free sweatshirt. Not what I'm saying. What I AM saying is, Yama loves their customers and loves making great sushi, and both of these loves are obvious whenever I order from them. Dining in is also quite nice when you can do it, especially since the restaurant got a little makeover last year. Thank you for everything you do, Yama! I'm excited to sport your sweatshirt around town to send more people your way.

I walked in and put in an order to go for a paradise roll, shrimp teriyaki, and salmon teriyaki. It was not until I got home that I realized that they did not actually take my full order.

This could have been prevented if a) the host I ordered with actually repeated my order or b) I was provided an itemized receipt at any point of transaction to review. The host took the itemized receipt upon its printing and never showed me it - I was only given a final total to sign for. Thus, I was under the perception that the staff were capable of producing my order as I requested.

Upon me realizing that I only received 2/3 of the items that I requested for purchase, I called the institution under the perception that the host actually placed the correct order. When I called, I told whoever picked up the phone my order and how I'm missing something. She then states that my order was not actually submitted correctly. I'm annoyed at this point, in which she first asked if I wanted to put in additional order (mind you I live a good ~ 25 min from the institution) so I said no. Then she mockingly says "well there isn't anything I can do for you."

Not once did the worker apologize for their mistake or even show a droplet of empathy for their own mistake.

This is my first and last time visiting this place. If you do not want to work, then don't. The lack of quality service is unfair for someone who's spending their hard earned money.

I did give a star for the sushi roll - the chef did what...

I have never left on a review on any place ever but I definitely felt the need to tonight. I have celiac disease, which yes obviously I understand about the cross contamination. I did not know that the spicy tuna roll had crunch in it because I have never got it in it before nor does it list the description on it online. I decided to eat my sushi in my car and on the third one, yes third bc I just thought the tuna had a little bit of texture in it. I didn’t realize till i ate it. I immediately put my dish down and went in there. I had no attitude bc I was genuinely curious about how it’s made bc it usually doesn’t have the crunch in there. I was greeted by this really rude woman up front. The white girl with the really bad attitude.she said “yeah it’s made like that bc sometimes they just put the crunch in unless you specify” like how was I supposed to know? Anyways, she said “so you wait until you eat half of it” there was 6 damn rolls. It’s not that deep. My bad for feeling a crunch and having an allergy and just wanting a fresh roll. My apologies I guess lol. She kept saying “oh I don’t think the manger is gonna do that” this and that. And she asked right in front of me and she said yes within 5 seconds. Horrible customer service (only from that one white girl with black hair) any other time they were all very nice. Some people don’t belong in customer service if they don’t have the...
