To start this off this is not about the service, our server and busboy were fantastic. This is about the quality of food. Before changing new owners this was a go to spot to eat. Everything made from scratch delicious quality for a great price. However the focus isn’t on quality anymore it’s on their profit. 1st off I ordered the shiitake melt and my girlfriend ordered the strawberry salad with “candied walnuts and walnut vinaigrette “ how can I put this nicely, the salad was abysmal except for the dressing. They may have put two grains of sugar on each walnut but you cannot say they are candied. The chicken tasted like it was boiled in water tossed in a trash can and put back on the plate. As for the shiitake beef melt. You are falsely advertising this sandwich, they are bell button mushrooms in the sandwich not shiitake. It was subpar especially with the wrong fungus among us. Last but definitely not least. I was so excited for pudding, one thing that this restaurant was known for, world famous almost! The waitress came back after asking for lilikoi pudding and said that they are stopping the puddings , they had a lemon pudding with butter cookies and a blueberry lemon loaf which was 100% from Costco. I got the pudding thinking of the last time I had their pudding. This was a store bought lemon pudding not sour and tasted like sweet lemon floor cleaner from the store and again it had graham crackers not the butter cookies as advertised. Cutting down on quality to use ingredients bought from Costco has turned me away from here forever. Putting profits over the quality of the food will lose you business in the long run. I sincerely hope you consider thinking about quality instead of the quantity of money you had hope to make by taking these lazy shortcuts. I will be driving 35 minutes to Kihei now to go to the real 808 whose quality is impeccable and pudding indescribable. I want to reiterate that the waitress and busboy were AMAZING. The food left something...

ATMOSPHERE: Not much has changed, sans for maybe new furniture? Even then I'm not 100% positive. The space is an old building with high ceilings, no a/c, and awning-style windows. A small room at the front can be used for private dining, and features high tops and counter seating that looks out to the sidewalk & street. Oddly, there is no bar, yet they have an extensive bar menu. The rest of the space is filled with regular tables. Restrooms are located in the building next door, accessible with a communal key.
FOOD: Kimchi Hummus It sounds odd, but was really tasty! I guess it's traditional hummus, but they mix in kimchi, which turns the dip orange, and lifts the ho-hum hummus to a whole other level in the flavor department. Spice rating is a 1 on a 5 scale, very mild. Toasted and chewy pita triangles are used for dipping. Highly recommended.
Spicy Chicken Wings Unfortunately they were all drumette pieces, no wingettes. Boo! Spice level is a 3 on a 5 scale, and overall was a bit dry.
Classic Cheeseburger This was my spouse's dish. The single bite I had was so disappointing, as the thick-formed patty was chewy and mushy because it was underdone, and didn't have much flavor. The fries were warm and crispy, though I've had better. Where are the pickles??
Chicken Pesto Primavera My dish! The pasta fanatic in me will always order this first over everything else on the menu, and what a great choice it was. The spaghetti was done in a creamy pesto sauce that had tons of flavor and depth, along with yellow peppers, pine nuts, tender strips of chicken, fresh basil, fresh parmesan cheese, and 3 tasty slices of garlic bread. Highly recommended for the pasta and pesto fan!
SERVICE: Our female server was friendly, professional, and checked on us often.
OVERALL: Good food & service,...
Read moreOthers have reviewed this place as the best happy hour near the airport/Kahului, so my wife and I decided to check it out before our flight home. It was our first stop on our quest to find cheap drinks and good food, and it was a bust. It has literally no qualities of a good happy hour. First, the entire town of Wailuku just plain sucks compared to the rest of the island. 808 is basically built inside an old garage, so there is no AC and you're basically sitting in an open air garage bay with some white Christmas lights overhead for "ambiance." Open air is great if you're sitting near the beach, or with a view of same, but not great when your view is of an off street parking lot nowhere near a beach. The drink list was comically simple for an island bar. Literally everything on the drink menu you could find any dive bar in Arkansas. I don't recall seeing any local brews. Their Hawaiian drink list was super short and lame. My wife had a mojito, and thought it was odd that they chopped up the mint into flakes that easily traveled up her straw. I chose an Avery beer, which they served in the can with a mason jar type mug on the side. Mug wasn't even slightly chilled. I don't recall much from the food menu, because it was that forgettable to a foodie who was hungry at the time. I do recall it being very limited and both the drink and food prices were barely reduced for HH. Drinks were still expensive. And the final complaint; they don't have their own restrooms, but they'll give you a key to the building next door, so you can walk outside, up a winding handicap ramp, to the building with the restrooms. One positive note: they were the nicest public restrooms I...
