Kudos to the owners and their unique name choice for their business. IMO using "Maui" in any business name is so unimaginative. Esters Fair Prospect is Wailuku's newest watering hole. What sets them apart from neighboring bars is that they offer a unique selection of cocktails, a small appetizer menu and an outdoor patio.
ATMOSPHERE: They're located in the Wailuku Promenade facing bustling Main Street. The inside is open-air and cozy like a city eatery but I prefer their outdoor patio with views of Wailuku's historic buildings. They were pretty busy on this particular Thursday afternoon but turnover is quick for the most part. Parking is available on the east side of the building or on-street. The municipal parking lot in the back is closed while a new parking structure is being built.
MENU: Daiquiris, cocktails, beer, wine and four appetizer selections. Happy hour is daily from 3-6pm which are for certain drinks only.
BEVERAGE: Classic Daiquiri - $7.00 (happy hour) Perfectly balanced flavors without being overly potent or too citrusy. Comes elegantly topped with a slice of blood orange.
Come Here Often? - $12.00 Their version of a mule was mild compared to others I've had especially in the ginger-flavor and fizziness departments but was still very good. So good I had two. Or was it three?
FOOD: Burrata - $10.00 I love soft, velvety burrata and here it was no exception. The tapenade had some kick to it here and there and went extremely well with the pillowy soft and crunchy crouton bread. Highly recommended!
Guac - $8.00 A bit too citrusy for me but the tortilla chips were really, really good as they had a strong corn-flavor on top of its salty goodness. Had to ask for more!
SERVICE: There was no signage or host stand so I stood in the doorway waiting to be acknowledged. A friendly gal approached and I asked for a four-topper outside in which one was open. Server and bartender-in-one Colton took excellent care of us. Everyone was friendly, patient and professional.
OVERALL: I think we've found our new...
ย ย ย Read moreDrinks we're amazing, but unfortunately the bartender we had was very sarcastic, rude, and condescending. He also spent time behind the bar gossiping about us with another bartender loud enough for us to hear. Being local, born and raised on Maui, this was the last thing I expected especially being that Maui is filled with beautiful people and the service industry, trying their best to share their Aloha during these hard times. He was the opposite, clearly showing that he is not one of Aloha and not someone that wants return customers. He may not want local people at his bar? But local people are what makes this community and that's how we decided to try this bar out. I can see this business going to the dumps with someone that lacks Aloha. A bar with sub par drinks but with the best customer service is by far better than a business that has great drinks but highly lacks the great service. Premium drinks at premium prices deserve premium...
ย ย ย Read moreMaui is an amazing place and this bar was one of my favorite parts of the whole trip. My only regret is that we didn't discover it until the last day of our trip, while killing time near the airport. I tried the comfortably numb and the milk punch- both of which were super unique and tasty. If you like to be a little adventurous with your cocktails, this is definitely a good spot. And if not, get a daquiri! The ceviche and little sliders were delicious as well. I appreciated that this was a less touristy part of Maui and seemed to be frequented by locals. While appreciating the fun vibe and eclectic atmosphere, we were lucky enough to meet the owner, Jessica. She had a fantastic story of how the bar came to be and a ridiculous amount of mixology knowledge. The other bartender was very personable and fun as well! Even if it's a drive from your hotel, it's worth planning to spend a few hours here! 10/10...
