My review is for the restaurant only! We went there for our 30th anniversary for dinner. When booking a reservation, I noted that we were celebrating our 30th. It seems they don't get those memos as the hostess didn't convey that to our server. I had to tell him. I don't think the hostess got the memo either. We sat down at 745 and didn't see a waiter till approx 8:00 and finally got some resemblance of food (bread plate) at 810. Very overwhelmed staff rushing everywhere. And wasn't even busy as there were many open tables. There was an open table closer to scenery, and we weren't even sat there. The salad was delicious as we split it between us. At 20 dollars, why not. My wife enjoyed the steak, I had some bites, and it was good. I got the catch of the day (swordfish) at 65 dollars. It was barely the size of my palm, not including my fingers. Portion control is herendous here. They bring out entrees on huge plates to give the appearance that you're getting the bang for the buck. If money isn't a problem for you here, then hab at it. But when traveling on a budget and trying to woo your wife at an upscale restaurant, then be prepared to spend for nothing. On the plate. Back to the bread, one plate came out, and no more was offered. 4 rolls tops. Come desert time, we got asked by two different waiters if we would like a desert menu. I'm confused because it isn't that our assigned waiters job. I was, and expected at least, a anniversary desert as pictures from other reviews show. So I figured I guess we aren't getting the special, so we ordered the desert from the other waiter. Finally, our regular waiter shows up and says he wouldn't like a desert menu, and we said that we ordered, and he said well shoot. I had a planned desert plate for you, and I said just cancel the other two, and he tried but was too late. So, take note as a way for them to charge you menu items and cloud it with a free small anniversary plate offer. Our waiter at times shined, but it wasnt continuous. Overall, I was unimpressed, especially for a Montage owned restaurant. I'm not happy to say the least, and I wish you well if you do decide to dine here. It might be a hit or a...
Read moreWith breathtaking views and an awe-inspiring open concept upon entry, Cane & Canoe is as spectacular a dining experience as one will find while in Maui, which is saying a lot with all the island has to offer. It is truly magnificent.
That being said, for vegetarians, it is woefully underwhelming. There wasn't a single grain of salt or seasoning included in the lone vegetarian option, the Bu'ono Strozzapretti Pasta. It lacked any flavor whatsoever and it's particularly curious that it is included on the pricey pre-fixe menu.
The Beet & Burrata Salad was also quite perplexing, as it combines beets and fruit (an odd combination indeed), but perhaps that was the intention? I will give the chef a pass on that however as it presents very well when it arrives to the table.
The Caesar salad comes with fresh anchovy fillets layered on top of it (something that I'd never seen before), so be prepared for that truly bizarre sight when it arrives to the table. Thankfully, I saw it before my date ate any or I would've been wearing it once she realized what she was eating!
I'd indicated in the reservation that I was celebrating a birthday, but that little tidbit didn't make it to our server. No biggie, those things happen.
All in all, it was a fantastic evening and I'd highly recommend it for the views and ambience alone. Being a vegetarian, you come to expect hits and misses so if you're a tree-hugger like me, lower your expectations for the menu options and you'll be fine. Everyone else in your party however, will enjoy the meal of a...
Read moreNestled in a picturesque location with stunning views, Cane and Canoe offers an unforgettable dining experience, making it the perfect spot for special celebrations. My partner and I recently celebrated our four-year anniversary here, and the evening could not have been more memorable.
The food was nothing short of extraordinary. We savored the ribeye steak and braised short rib, both cooked to absolute perfection. The flavors were rich and meticulously balanced, showcasing the skill and care put into each dish. The entrees alone were enough to make the evening stand out, but the attentive and friendly staff took our experience to the next level.
One of the highlights of the night was the thoughtful surprise the restaurant had in store for us. In honor of our anniversary, they treated us to a complimentary anniversary cake, which was served alongside our panna cotta dessert. The gesture was unexpected but deeply appreciated, and it added a personal touch to what was already a spectacular meal.
The drinks at Cane and Canoe also deserve mention, offering a refreshing and creative selection that perfectly complemented the meal. From start to finish, every element of the evening was enhanced by the exceptional service and atmosphere.
Cane and Canoe played a major role in making our anniversary truly special. For anyone seeking a combination of exquisite food, breathtaking views, and top-tier service, this restaurant is...
