I made a reservation for 545 here on a Wednesday night, hoping to get a table to be able to view the sunset during dinner. We were seated outside, but unfortunately the sunset was blocked by other tables and a tree, not a huge deal, just know that you can't reserve specific tables. Sunset was at 6:40pm, so I would advise you to come 60-75 minutes prior to sunset if that's what your goal is to maximize your chances of enjoying the view with your dinner. But anywhere outside is a great view of the water and Lanai.
Service was great and our host was attentive and friendly. We started with some drinks (Sangria, which was good), and then ordered the ahi tuna sashimi and calamari. I would highly recommend both of these items as appetizers. The tuna was fresh, and the calamari was flavorful and actually good sized pieces, compared to the skinny pieces other restaurants may sell.
Their entrees change depending on what fresh fish is available. We ordered mahi-mahi and monchong. Both were great and no issues. Our entrees did take a while to arrive (around 45 minutes after we were done our appetizers), so not sure if it was just super busy or perhaps our server forgot to put in our entrees right away. Either way, we had no issues with the entrees. Fish was fresh and full of flavor and the accompaniments paired well.
Lastly, we had the hula pie, which is a must. I believe it's macadamia nut ice cream cake, you get a huge slice that is covered in chocolate, whipping cream and macadamia pieces on top. Definitely a sharing plate, this thing is huge! But it's delicious and highly recommend you save room for this.
All in all, it was a nice dinner. Two appetizers, two entrees, 4 drinks (2 sangria, a mule and another drink) cost us $160 without tip. The hula pie was complimentary due to a coupon we had. Would recommend this restaurant if you're looking for a nice dinner...
Read moreIt was our last day in Maui. It rained heavily so they closed the view. Most of the tables were wet, but we managed to get a table on the above floor.
They served us complimentary carrot muffins. For drinks we ordered had Kimo Mai Tai. For starters we ordered Coconut Shrimps. For main course we ordered Parmesan Crusted Fresh fish and fish tacos. For dessert we ordered Hula Pie
The complimentary served Carrot muffins were something new to taste. It was not too sweet nor sour. It was good to taste. Would like to pay and order more next time.
Kimo Mai Tai was refreshing. ASA I had a sip of it there was burst of flavors in my mouth. It was the best drink I had so far in Maui. It went well with our main course.
Coconut Shrimps were crispy from the outside and perfectly cooked from inside. It was tasty and juicy. It was served with a dip and a slice of lemon on the side. They served only three. I wished their serving number was more.
Parmesan Crusted Fresh fish was perfectly cooked. I was able to cut the fish in one go. I was nice, tender and juicy. It was served with fresh caramelized carrots, some rice, capers and lime on the side.
They served two tacos of fish with some nachos and a dip on the side with a slice of lime.
The Original Hula Pie for dessert is too big for two people who had a heavy dinner. It was huge, sweet, and tasty. The waiter told us the story behind this Hula pie. A few years ago when shipmen used to anchor their ships at Maui they all used to gather and party. After having their meal, they all used to sit together and eat this Hula Pie. So that's the reason why it's huge. It is meant to be eaten in bulk to celebrate...
Read moreRobert was a wonderful server! He had such charisma and made us feel so welcome at this restaurant! Anybody who has the pleasure of having him wait on you will have a very wonderful dining experience. He is a very knowledgeable server; he memorized every different kind of fish main course in detail that was on the menu with ease.
Because my fiancé and I were on our babymoon and made a special mention of it, we ordered a slice of the Hula pie and werw happy to find out from Robert that it was “on the house!” It was a very nice touch, and Robert said when he knows someone is celebrating something special, he will ask the manager if the pie can be on the house. Thanks, Robert, for organizing that for us!
The ambience was nice with the tiki torches and dim lighting—very romantic.
One point of feedback: we were able to make a reservation online for 8:30 pm, but when we arrived for our dinner, we were politely told by Robert that the kitchen was trying to close on time, but to take our time looking over the menu. My fiancé and I are completely respectful of the food industry and their working hours, so we liked and understood that Robert was trying to respectfully support the back of house team. However, the comment about the kitchen closing did make us feel a little rushed, even though Robert told us that there was no need to rush. My advice to the management/online reservations team: don’t allow an 8:30 pm reservation if it’s going to be too late for the kitchen. Possibly consider making 8 pm the latest reservation so the kitchen doesn’t feel rushed.
Thanks so much, Robert, for the wonderful service and...
