Ululani's Hawaiian Shave Ice - Kahului — Restaurant in Maui

This place is top-rated with 5 stars and it is because they have got the best shaved ice in the world. I cannot describe how delicious this shaved ice is! My husband found out about this place when he was searching for other must try restaurants on Big Island and I am so happy that he did!! They have locations in Maui and also in Big Island. On our entire trip for about 10 days, we ate at Ululani's almost every single day. Our favorite is the SUNSET BEACH which is a combination of tropical flavors - guava, passion orange and mango. We tried other flavors like coconut with cream, lychee and passion fruit. The shaved ice was yummy and we can taste that the syrups used in making the shaved ice are from fresh fruits. We have tried shaved ice in other cities and they all use artificial fruit flavored syrups which is what puts Ululani's in a different league. The ice is finely shaved and there are no icy chunks. It just melts in your mouth and we get a burst of flavor in every bite. Can't wait to go back again!!! A must try when you go...

The flavors are exceptional, mix and match to get your sweet spot. The macadamia nut ice cream under the shave ice gives this desert a great texture to go with the taste sensations. The is a powdered snow consistency; they poke holes in the ice to let the flavors disperse throughout. And the serving sizes are more than ample for folks of all sizes.

This chain must be the best overall on Maui in terms of consistency in quality and service. The machines appear to be identical in all their locations and perform like they are maintained to be perfectly calibrated in order to produce the extremely fine texture in the shave ice. The employees at this chain use the same technique in shaping the shave ice on the bowl and then poking holes into the shave ice to allow the syrups to penetrate and get uniformly distributed. They post a sign that guarantees they use the right amount of syrup in every serving, and they say if your shave ice runs out of syrup, you can ask for more at no charge.
