Post of an employee
I was an employee at Jason’s Deli in south McAllen for almost three years. I was dedicated to my job that I was promoted to supervisor within a year due to my hard work ethic. I moved over to this company believing in the values that it so highly preached consisting of highest quality food served, world hospitality, highest personal standards, a healthy growing company, and especially a great place to work. Unfortunately, this was quickly revealed to be a big façade, a workplace that was extremely toxic and heavily filled with lies. I want to share with the community the things that this store experiences on a daily due to the horrendous management team it has that has tormented a huge amount of employees, past and present. It seemed like all the other stores were doing their best to adapt to the ongoing pandemic but the severity didn’t seem to process through the minds of management. It clearly didn’t when one of the employees tested positive for COVID19, not only were us the employees kept in the dark about this known fact but so were the customers. This was kept a secret in order to not shut down the store and continue business as usual because apparently the safety of the customers and employees can be jeopardize over money. After it was known regarding the positive case, the store was not shut down for a full proper sanitation. What makes this worse is that I witnessed countless times where not enough bleach was ordered to properly sanitize plates and silverware and this period would last up to two weeks where only soap and water was used. On top of that the dishwasher only functions properly half of the time, meaning the dishes don’t even get washed properly and any residue that is left is wiped away with a rag, that may or may not have been in its proper sanitation water bucket. Some of the customers have experienced this and can recall especially when being handed a salad plate. The conditions in the back where all food preparations took place were horrendous. At one point in time the back flow of sewage water would cover employees feet and this lasted for a whole day. You can easily find roaches in the food preparation area because of the lack of proper cleaning methods this was due to employees being sent home immediately to save on labor. Even mice would make their way into the bag of chips. Speaking of employees although guidelines were put in place for a safe workplace during this pandemic, when I brought up the fact that six of us were working shoulder to shoulder and weren’t able to properly practice six feet apart the manager Javier Yáñez stated that it wasn’t a state law. This is the same man that told me to my face that I didn’t want to return because I rather stay at home than work because I was getting paid more on unemployment knowing full well I have a daughter with an autoimmune disease. These are a few things that I’ve seen during the pandemic and not taking into consideration everything else I’ve experienced and witnessed in the three years I worked for this store consisting of sexual harassment, discrimination, favoritism, and injustice. I am not alone in this sentiment and I ask that any one that has ever felt victimized at this store by any one in management...
Read moreGreat place for a quick fresh bite My original review was 8 months ago (above) and it was solely based on the food and in Jason's deli in general. Today I'm back with my review on this specific location. I'm not surprised that others here feel the same way about the service, as I thought it was just me that had experienced bad service (on multiple occasions). Today I went and ordered my usual, the manager's special. I specified no mayo, which was written all over my recipes. When the server brought my order he forgot my soup, no big deal. Then I looked at my sandwich and noticed the top bread saturated with mayo. Yuck! Once again no big deal, I just asked the server to please return in and replace the bread. He did so. Upon returning I quickly noticed the plate was visibly dirty, seemed to be wiped off but food residual was still visible. On top of that, the chips looked stale, broken, and a lesser quantity. This was not the plate that had been originally brought to me with the fresh and plentiful chips. This looked like a plate that had beed discarded by someone else and they just put my damn sandwich on it. This was disgusting and I truly hope it was not an intentional act. This potentially compromised my health and quite possibly their other patrons health! Good luck to all you diners, watch out for used plates, chips, and...
Read moreI'm huge fan of JD so if you're going to this location for the salad bar carry on, but if you are ordering food 🙄 pull out some patience. My review isn't based on 1 time visit but 4 years of visiting. The tend to make the dishes however they want instead of according to the set JD menu. So every time I go, my favorite meal comes out different and plain pasta with nothing on it, is impossible to get right 🙈😂 plus sometimes the nuke it so much it comes out rubbery. The dish you're seeing is suppose to be the l their Zucchini Garden Pasta, it looks more like their Pasta Primo or Meatball Marinara Pasta but still not exactly those either. When i ask about it, thinking 🤔 "they must have a supply shortage issue, no problem" they tell me this is how it's suppose to be they've always served it like this. Mind you, I've been going 4 years now and they have served it all kinds of ways. So go with patience 😉 To end on a positive note, they have uplifting music, honor religious holidays and provide a family friendly...
