A little disappointed. My girlfriend and I stopped by for lunch before going to an early movie and we were told about the Margarita Monday drink special. I had seen it advertised when looking up the menu earlier that day. The ad read $8 ANY margarita. So we both ordered a cucumber/jalapeño margarita. There was no mention of it not being included in the special. The food was delicious, I had the chili relleno and she had Pozole. The waiter was attentive but not overbearing. When the bill comes out, we are charged $24 for our drinks. Come to find out it really wasn’t ANY margarita as advertised. There is no separate list of discounted options. Only a select few flavors on the whole list are included. 2 things. 1. If you are going to run a special be specific about what is included at the special price. 2. When the customer orders a drink after talking with the wait staff specifically about said promotion and is not told the drink they are ordering is not included in the promotion, don’t say sorry that wasn’t included after you bring them the bill.
We were very polite and paid our bill without insisting on promotional pricing but it definitely tainted our...
Read moreIt's hard to find Mexican food that is any better then "fine" in Southern Oregon. Most places around here share a menu and are unremarkable in quality.
Casa Vieja was a real exception on my visit. I've only been once but I'll be back.
Its renovation is thoughtful and clean looking, and the vibe and service were great. But what really impressed me was the attention to quality in the food. The pozole was good, with tasty and generous chunks of pork, a flavorful broth and the right accompaniments. The rice as fluffy and flavorful and not desiccated and hard from overexposure to a salamander. The guacamole was fresh and tasty. Best of all was the assortment of meat on the Fantastic Plate: the marinade and grilling technique was on point, with deep flavor and succulent meat cooked perfectly.
Portions are generous, prices are right and to top it off, the piña colada was tasty and fresh, recalling the blended style of drink you'd get at a great...
Read moreWe were really impressed when first walking into this place. It has a very modern vibe with very sophisticated decor in black and white accented by light fixtures of suspended glass lit from above. We were later than normal for lunch and so were seated right away. Our server was somewhat distracted but things went well enough that we were not too concerned. The food came in a timely manner and was impressive. The Chicken Chipotle was on an immense platter with a spicy sauce that was just right. My taco salad was meaty and with perfect ingredients without a large portion of beans and rice that others might use a filling. Getting out was our main problem. Our waiter had wandered off somewhere and finally the cook noticed our impatience and tried to help us. The bill paying and checking out turned into a mess that was almost comedic. Sparing the details I unfortunately have to rate Casa Vieja than I noticed they have...
