Crumpy's Hot Wings Downtown is a hidden gem that I couldn't resist, even though I'm cheating on my diet. From the moment I stepped in, the aroma of their signature hot wings filled the air, making it impossible to resist temptation.
The chicken they serve here brings back memories of the quality I used to enjoy during the late 1990s. For those who experienced that era, you'll understand the nostalgia it invokes with every bite.
Now, let's talk about the sides. The fries are seasoned to perfection, with a delicate blend of spices and salts that add an extra layer of flavor. When paired with the fresh celery and carrots on the side, the combination is heavenly, balancing the richness of the wings.
Speaking of the wings, the chef's expertise is evident in every batch. As someone who isn't a fan of hard chicken or heavy ranch dressing, I was pleasantly surprised by how perfectly the chef prepared my order. The chicken was tender, juicy, and cooked just right, allowing the sauce to meld seamlessly with the skin.
One of the things that stood out to me was the consistency of the sauce. It was never overly drippy, ensuring that each bite was enjoyable without making a mess.
Overall, this particular Crumpy's location is K.Le approved. While there might be other Crumpy's establishments that didn't meet my expectations, I can confidently say that this one delivers a fantastic hot wing experience. And fear not, even though I'm not a fan of the other locations, they still offer a decent experience – just not as exceptional as this one.
So, if you're craving some lip-smacking hot wings and a delightful blend of flavors, head over to Crumpy's Hot Wings Downtown. Don't forget to mention my recommendation, and ask them to cook the chicken the same way they do for me – you won't be disappointed!
PS THIS LOCATION IS SUPER CLEAN AND THEY TAKE PRIDE IN THEIR APPEARANCE of the store AND customer service! FASHO! Seen it first hand. No lies...
Read moreI've always thought Memphis does NOT need another wing joint. They all claim to have the "best wings" in town. Their food may be tasty. They may be a small chain or a local, family run restaurant. Some may operate from a gas station or truck stop. They all have something to offer, but they don't really stand out in the grand scheme of things. Then, there's Crumpy's on Dunlap!
There is streetside parking, which is ok. If you're not used to being in different types of neighborhoods in Memphis, you may want to go somewhere else. The restaurant is about the only sign of life you'll see for a few blocks. Overall, I feel comfortable at this place. It's a small, quaint restaurant with very limited seating. I didn't see any menus posted, but they do have QR codes you can scan. That saves them money and reduces germs inside the restaurant.
When I visit, I only get the honey gold sauce. I appreciate the variety of flavors they offer, but I finally found one sauce that I can stick with and be happy with. I don't venture from that.
Earlier I said most wing places in Memphis are cookie-cutter, carbon copies of each other. At this Crumpy's, there's one person who makes this location worth the drive and stand out. His name is Loco. There may be 1000 people in front of him placing orders, but he doesn't miss a step. He has patience, poise, and an amazing smile.....EVERY time. He gives everyone the attention and respect they deserve. He provides great service. Customer service makes the difference. That's how you set yourself apart from the wing crowd in Memphis.

Read moreI ordered a TD special with one of my coworkers. He ordered one too with everything with different wings than mines. I didnt want mustard or ketchup on my burger and I wanted seasoned ranch wings. My coworker picked up the food. I opened up the food container to notice that my whole order was wrong. There was mustard and ketchup on my burger, the wings were not right seasoning and no fries. So I take the food back and tell them that the order was wrong. The lady looks at the ticket and then asks the cooks if they messed up on the order. The cooks said that they made the order the right way and that me and my coworker got our orders mixed up. Not the case. His burger had everything on it too and he ordered wet wings. So the lady said that they would remake the food. So I get my food and walk out. I figured that they would get my order right this time. I get back to my office and I see that my order is right, but they used the same burger patty because it still had mustard and ketchup on the sides and the bottom of it. If you guys are going to remake the food, please don't reuse the same food. This is not a remake. I am very disappointed with crumpys...
