I just wanted to come here to share my experience as a previous barista. After seeing the low reviews it makes me so sad that this coffee shop seems to still be plummeting. I got hired on by an amazing manager. Im not sure if theres a new manager there or not but either way. The owner is what causes this place to be so bad. He would verbally abuse workers and the manager. When i first started it took him three months to even learn my name. And it took me not acknowledging him speaking to me for him to ask my manager why i wouldnt answer him. He used my name for a month and then it went back to “hey you.” During the rebrand we were forced to work during the rebuild in construction that the owner did on his (pretty terribly need i remind). Taking down fans full of dust iver drinks during serving hours and would refuse to close down to finish construction. The back where the cold brew/ nitro fridge is has. Piece of wall that used to go from ground to ceiling… he just cut it in half to make room for the fridge to go there (not safe). Also. We were not encouraged to wear non slip shoes. And my coworker fell twice with no workers comp provided. Training is non existent. That wasnt an issue for me because i worked for starbucks. Our manager got robbed at gunpoint taking deposits to the bank and no saftey measures were put in place besides a ring camera. There is a pet camera inside the store that’s supposed to be for safety…. But really its to spy on us and get us in trouble for talking about concerns we had with our job…… the owner has also made multiple racist remarks about black and brown employees that were there during my time…..
Also when we demanded a raise his solution was just to put our cash tips onto our check to make us feel better which was nit the point at all…..
Lastly there were maggots on a counter for months and i complained about it over and over for him to tell us to kill them with bleach (it didnt workthey always came back) he wouldnt change the type of counters we had to keep gross milk from building up …… needless to say. This place was the worst experience in my life . And the only thing that kept me there was the manager that cared about us. But she too seemed to be in what id call and abusive owner/ manager relationship with the owner. Theres no ethics here. If you want to support local businesses….. i wouldn’t...
Read moreBack when this was Ugly Mug it was my favorite coffee place; the employees and food were great, but sadly I have finally given up on Rambling Joes. I was a reward member and everything, but the nosedive in service and abysmal wait times leave me wondering why anyone even bothers with this place anymore.
When the rebrand happened I saw many of the long time employees disappear and they have been replaced with new faces every time I visit. The revolving door of employees is enough to give them whiplash, as there is never a familiar face when I come here. Every employee I've seen in this coffee shop over the last few months seems to be in the middle of a nervous breakdown, which is probably why every single order is wrong and the wait times for the drive through can take over 30 minutes.
The new management/owner is obviously not hiring enough people or not taking the hiring process seriously, as they are always short staffed and the employees never appear to know what they are doing. I would expect this sort of staff at a hickory hill McDonald's, but right in the heart of east Memphis at the corner of Poplar and Perkins? Part of me wonders if they got rid of the old staff so that they could hire on new people at lower wages.
the food itself is actually really good when you get what you ordered, and only after waiting a long time for it. Even if the quality has dipped recently and they took off some of my favorites from the menu. It's such a shame to see such a great place plummeting so low. I don't expect this rebranded coffee shop to last very long at all with this sort of service. I for one won't be coming back, and if you can't keep longtime regulars like me then how do you expect to keep new customers...
Read morewhile this place does provide really great coffee, recently it just hasn’t been like it used to be. the old crew that worked there about a month or two ago was really great! they were quick, they were personable meaning everytime i walked in there they knew my name and they knew what i was having. i still have good experiences here the only downside being i’m a regular here and come in nearly everyday which i know i’m not the only one, however the crew now doesn’t make nearly as good drinks. i always come in for the same full moon frappe (highly recommended) which i used to LOVE more and more each time i got it thanks to the old crew that was so great but recently they have been not blended well, ice floating in the cup almost as if i ordered an iced coffee. flavor is still great it just doesn’t seem like they’re holding up to the standards they used to. this place is really great but if you’re looking got a quick grab and go cup of coffee before work this unfortunately isn’t the place because you’ll be waiting in line way too long. i’d suggest using the app as i have but even then you’ll be waiting a 5-10 minutes past your pickup time. I give 2 stars because i still love the place don’t get me wrong i just don’t feel as welcomed when i walk in as i used to and i don’t find myself coming in as much recently because every time i do the coffee just using up to par, i can never get it through the straw because of how much ice is in it. and lastly because this isn’t a quick coffee run option in town. if you aren’t in a rush and want a good cup of coffee this is your place. i will still continue to give this place a chance every now and then but i’m not an everyday customer like i used to be. very...
