Taziki's @ Mendenhall — Restaurant in Memphis

I don't leave many reviews, and I certainly do not like to leave a negative review. However, this experience warrants taking the time to inform others of the experience we had at this Taziki's location. We waited over 20 minutes for a small take-out order of a lamb gyro, Mediterranean salad, and fountain drink. The restaurant was mostly empty, the time was around 2:30pm on a Thursday, so the staff was certainly not busy. In fact, the young woman taking our order had a very condescending and demanding attitude, as if we were annoying her by ordering. She barked out questions about our order, when we were clearly ordering simple items that she seemingly did not understand. She was more concerned with protecting her newly done, two inch long fancy fingernails, than taking our order. After I paid, and tipped, even on a takeout order, we were told to wait by the drink fountain. We waited, and waited, my wife went to the bathroom, and still we waited. After about 15 minutes we started watching the prep staff to see if they were making our order yet. They were not. So I went to the counter and asked if they had forgotten our order. The staff all looked at us like we were crazy, including the hostess. Finally, a young man at the front counter asked our name, which I told him, and he said he called our name twice, and our order has been ready for 10 minutes. I asked “Where did you call our name? I didn't hear anyone call us.” With an indignant attitude he said, "Right here, it's not my fault that you didn't hear me". I asked, "You didn't think to look around? You didn't notice two people sitting over there waiting on an order?" I asked the hostess, "We sat where you told us to, you didn't think to tell us our order was ready?" No one replied, they just stared at us blankly. To add insult to injury, our sandwich was now cold. It wasn't bad, but in my opinion, it was not a very authentic gyro; the lamb was somewhat bland and not seasoned authentically, the toppings were a bit spare with very little sauce. But what sauce was there was quite good. I will also say the salad was good, with fresh ingredients and an excellent dressing, but on the other hand it would be difficult to make that incorrectly. So, while the food was ok, we will not be returning because of the apathetic, condescending attitude of the front counter staff. There aren’t enough words to describe how much I love Taziki’s! At 6:30 tonight, I ordered DoorDash from Taziki’s - my order was perfect (per usual) and I was so excited to eat it. Sadly, my DoorDash delivery driver decided my food was perfect as well and decided to steal it for themselves AND somehow still was able to pocket my payment (rude).

When I called Taziki’s to place another order and drive over there to get it, I was able to speak with the Manager (I’m pretty sure it’s Kyndall based on the name on the receipt). He was SO friendly and apologetic, even though it wasn’t even Tazikis’ fault. When I arrived, I was greeted with a smile, an apology, and a fully comped meal. I wanted to cry right then and there because Taziki’s and their amazing manager didn’t have to do that for me, but he did it anyways! He genuinely made my night and confirmed why I love Taziki’s so much. Not only is their food incredible, but you’ll always have nothing but amazing service while you’re there.

On Mother's Day just past, we made an order on line one hour before pick up. When we arrived to pick it up five minutes early, half the order was ready, and they said it would be ready in two minutes. Ten minutes later, the young women at the counter said she did not know and I asked her to check on it. Instead, she went in the back room and didn't come back. Meanwhile, I ased the supposed manager, a red headed 20-30 something, and he didn't know either. He also went to the back and did not return. At this time we had been waiting over 20 minutes. Finally, the woman working the grill asked us what was wrong. We told her part of our order had not been completed. She immediately corrected the wrong for us. The manager and counter girl were no where to be seen. Clearly, you have employed the wrong people and need to promote others! After 35 minutes past our pick-up time, we finally left with our order. Management needs to change! No work ethic or customer service. Check your employee schedule...
