Went for dinner for my birthday. Loved our waiter and my low service score is not a reflection on him. Instead it was the feeling of being rushed and that table turnover was more of a priority to the restaurant than having customers purchase an appetizer and more than one drink. We were greeted by our waiter almost immediately with their carrot dip with saltines asking for our drink order with no time to actually look at the drink menu. We ordered drinks anyway. Those took 10 minutes to arrive which is the only time we felt neglected but at least not rushed. We gave our dinner order with an appetizer expecting to have a leisurely dink with the appetizer when it arrived. We were then served some pretzels and crackers with a cheddar cheese spread that we did not order and did not want. Before our appetizer arrived we were also brought two pieces of corn bread and two rolls in a paper bag (?) as if they knew we wouldn’t eat them. We didn’t. Almost immediately after that our mozzarella bites (fried perfectly and very good) arrived. We each managed to have 3 of them when our entrees arrived. We’d only had about 3 sips of our drinks by then so there went the idea of wine with dinner. We both had the prime rib which was cooked as requested and was really good. The squash was amazing. The plain baked potato was dry even with butter and sour cream so get the loaded one like my husband did to avoid that. Because we felt rushed but still wanted to relax and enjoy our rare dinner out, we ordered an after dinner drink and sat there for a half hour knowing we were probably ruining the get ‘em in and out as fast as you can vibe and not feeling bad about it. As good as the food was, we will never go back. The cost of the “free” low quality appetizers and the breads we didn’t get a chance to eat are of course not free and are reflected in the cost of the meal. Just another tourist trap despite the highly recommended food...
Read moreHaven't been to this Lakes Region of NH institution for quite some time and stopped in after a long day of craft shopping for the holidays. Our server was very good. Sorry can't remember his name ...began with an "L" Young and new to waiting tables but very attentive.
Start with bad...
House Salad had carrot sticks on it that tasted terrible. Not sure if they had been frozen/thawed/refrozen several times. Tasted like an old freezer. The rest of the salad was fresh and well appointed.
Turkey Croquettes are one of my favorites...very dry. Extra gravy fixed that.
Turkey tips...WAY OVERCOOKED and served in a crock of hot marinade/juice which further cooked them. ONLY 5 SMALL PIECES OF TURKEY IN THE SMALL CROCK. Menu description said nothing of that style. Sorry people but 99 Restaurants have you beat hands down with their turkey tips! I would have never ordered these if I had known...see menu pic.
Something has changed with their stuffing. Always a favorite in the past. Now seems to be all bread and not much flavor...extra gravy fixed that...but should it?
Now the good...
Carrot relish /Saltine crackers...very yummy!
Very fresh rolls and cornbread
Turkey Broccoli Alfredo was a winner. Creamy warm and plenty of white and dark meat!👍👍👍
Mashed potatoes w/gravy? Just like Ma makes!👍👍👍
Apple pie...get it warm and a la mode.👍👍👍 Pumpkin Apple Cheesecake! 👍👍👍
Was it a bad night...wasn't busy...or has quality slide away?
Go and check it out for yourself. Plenty of other choices on this vast menu.
FYI...I have never gone wrong with the ALL WHITE MEAT...
Read moreThis is one of those places that always lives up. I enjoyed my first "turkey plate" in 1991. I loved the tender, juicy turkey, super-perfect squash, and fluffy, 100% real mashed potatoes. Perhaps my favorite part of Hart's, though, is actually (can't recall official name) that is free upon arrival. Served with saltines, it's a sweet and savory slaw made from carrots. I love it. But Hart's doesn't stop at spectacular turkey dinners. They have a buffet in winter that includes the best baked haddock around. The salad bar is always fresh, and has some delicious options that I try to avoid, just because I could absolutely make a meal off of it alone. Soups are great, and the rolls are always fresh and warm. They make their own cornbread - also delicious. I could go on and on, but the bottom line is the food is exceptional. After decades of visits, I can safely say that the restaurant is always clean, and the service is always great. My only complaint is that I am not a fan of their desserts. I have never ordered one from the menu (always too full) but I have tried different options from the buffet. Aside from a nice chocolate pinwheel, I have never liked the desserts. Otherwise, if you're looking for wonderful comfort food Hart's Turkey Farm is the...
