I've been here two or three times so far, and for the most part, I did enjoy the experience & food here. The interior is very modern, and I LOVE the high up tables / chairs. My seating preference here is in the room to the left, once you walk into the first floor entrance. It's naturally lit, huge windows, and of course has the high bar chairs / tables that I love. That room also has 2 TVs, along with the TVs you can still see at the bar area.
Every time I came here, I made sure to come during happy hour (3PM - 6PM M-F, ALL DAY SUNDAY). The Calamari is pretty good, the overall size of what you get is kind of small, but for $7 I'm not complaining. The sushi here is tasty, presentation is very nice. I'm not a sushi snob (I just love all food lol), and I enjoy the sushi you can buy at Winco. Comparing Winco's sushi to the sushi here, I'd say you can definitely tell the increase in taste and quality at Lucky Fin's, but the overall price per value isn't as good as Winco's, IMO. Still, I enjoyed the sushi here VERY much, and paired with the great atmosphere, natural lighting, and friendly staff, it's almost a home run.
I'm kind of picky as to which place I give 5 stars to. This place is a strong 4. The only big negative that's preventing me from giving a 5 is just the overall price. If the pricing was slightly lowered (doesn't have to be permanent, but perhaps a higher discount during happy hour), this place would be 5 stars easy.
If you're a soup person, I STRONGLY recommend the Roasted Poblano & Jalapeno Cream Soup. It's very tasty, and has the right amount of spice. I'd also recommend the calamari (during happy hour), it's just a little finger food to start you off and get you in the right mood. There's ALOT of sushi choices, but I prefer the hot / toasted ones (not exactly sure what the correct terminology is).
Overall, the interior vibe, natural lighting, high up tables / chairs, and the food / presentation are all great pros here. The pricing is just a little high, but it's definitely not going to stop me from coming here again...
Read moreWent there for my 70th bday. We each had a specialty overpriced cocktail. I think $10 would be plenty, not $15. We shared the lobster stuffed avocado which was very good. A 4.5 for sure. Wife ordered the Fins Platter. She said it was ok. I ordered the chefs special, Monk Fish. Well Monk Fish can be one of a dozen different kinds of fish. I asked the waiter what kind of fish they were using. Sea Bass or what? He didn't know, but said he got to sample it the day before and said it was awesome, tasted just like lobster. That should have been my 1st clue. There's no fish that can taste like a crustacean. But I was caught up in the moment of just wanting to have a great dinner on a monumental birthdate for me. I was so, so disappointed. The fish was way over cooked, extremely bland and tough. The Cole slaw was bland, tasteless except for the tiny pieces of apple. The fish portion was small, I'm guessing 4oz for $32-$36?can't remember for sure. I wish I'd taken a picture. The fish was so bad I only ate little more than half of it the plate looked half empty with the small cup of slaw and a smattering of cold french fries. The waiter said nothing when he cleared our table, nor offered a dessert. For $105.00 not including a tip, I was not happy. After seeing the review ratings I thought it would be awesome and be very busy on Saturday, prime dinner time, so I called and made a reservation for 6:15pm as we were coming from out of Boise. I know now why the place was better than 3/4 empty. So all in all, good atmosphere and presentation, good attentive wait staff although he didn't have a clue what good fish is, but my meal basically sucked, the wife's was so-so. Pretty sure we won't be...
Read moreI recently revisited Lucky Fins in Meridian. In the past, I’ve been to the original location, which is the one in Meridian, as well as the one in downtown Boise, which has since closed. There is also a location in Greeley, Colorado.
We started with an appetizer of Kickin’ Shrimp ($15) - Crispy shrimp tossed in a sweet and spicy honey-chipotle sauce, served with a side of ranch and a lime wedge. Similar to Bonefish Grill’s Bang Bang Shrimp, but uniquely its own, this isn’t excellent appetizer! If you like spicy shrimp, it’s worth visiting for this dish alone.
I ordered the Baja Fish Tacos ($15) - Tempura battered and fried Arctic cod with shredded cabbage, chipotle aïoli, pickled onions, cojita, and micro cilantro. Served with cilantro lime rice, lime wedges, and choice of salsa. The fish tacos were bland and flavorless. I didn’t realize until I started to write this review that they came with a choice of salsa, but I don’t think that would’ve made much of a difference. I liked the cilantro lime rice.
MW ordered the Cedar Plank Salmon ($29) - Center cut, grilled Arctic salmon on Northwest Cedar plank, seasoned with Rocky Mountain meat and fish rub, loaded smashers, grilled asparagus, charred lemon. MW liked the salmon dish, but would opt for something a little more interesting next time.
For dessert, we shared Bourbon Bread Pudding, which came topped with ice cream ($10). It was good.
The ambience and service...
