The best Alfajore I've had in the DMV. Let me explain. My mother went in and ordered an alfajore. The alfajores in this place are absolutely HUGE by the way. Trust me, 1 is more than enough to fill your appetite. Anyways, my mother is Peruvian and she is the biggest food critic around town especially when it comes to Peruvian dishes or pastries. My mother took one bite of the alfajore and she lost her mind. She said it was the best alfajore she's had in the states. She kindly asked who made the alfajore and 2 Lebanese women approached her. It turns out one of them made it and my mom told her that this is the most amazing cookie she has had. She basically insisted that it was on par to having an alfajore right from Lima, Peru. She brought me home 1 alfajore and I have to agree 100% that this is the best alfajore I've ever tried and to think this isn't even from a Peruvian restaurant or made by a Peruvian for that matter. Please do not change a thing with the alfajore recipe because it is perfection and I'm here telling the whole world to try the alfajore at Pastry Xpo. The cookie is just the right texture and hardness, and the dulce de leche filling is the most amazing thing I've tasted. I have many Lebanese friends and I am telling all of them to go try the Peruvian cookie because I am so proud that a Lebanese person made it with so much love and attention to detail. Thank you so much and I will be bringing tons of...
Read moreIt’s an amazing selection of pastries except the wait staff had a time communicating with customers. When we ordered our pastries it took a while before we could get our order right. The chocolate cupcakes were dried and for $5 a piece it should be perfectly done. Tiramisu was also dried. But napoleon was so delicious. We look forward to our next visit though and we will pastry xpo cafe another try before leaving Virginia.! 😃. Freshly made pastries this morning, but still no personality with customers at all, waited by the same female person. We went back before leaving Virginia to pastry xpo cafe and the gentleman behind the counter greeted my husband and thanked him for going back, but the woman seemed annoyed as soon as she saw us. But we won’t be back for a while so she doesn’t have to be bothered the paid customers like us anymore. Thank you for the yummy pastries that my husband enjoyed so much that my daughter had to take 3 times while we visited her . Hopefully when we return we will have a great customer service from all the team members. For a very high price place we should not have treated with...
Read moreThis is my favorite place to get desserts at Mosaic district. Typically, we get cupcakes here but this time we decided to try their other items. I opted for the tiramisu and friends ordered the carrot cake, pear chocolate espresso and the pistachio date cookies. We decided to eat our desserts here since we couldn't wait to try them. We shared our pieces with each other so we can try the other ones we haven't tasted yet.
I have had the tiramisu before and it's as good as I remember it. Not too sweet, not too strong- just enough amount of sweetness and just melts in your mouth. I also enjoyed the carrot cake. It was very tasty and had lots of nuts and raisins that just go together well. The icing was a nice cream cheese icing that wasn't too sweet. I wasn't a huge fan of the pear chocolate espresso pie- it wasn't that good. I think it was the least liked. The cookies- they were spectacular! I love the way it melts in your mouth and when you get a bite of everything together- the pistachio, the dates and the sugar cookie it's so different but really good! Can't wait to try something...
