Broken Yolk Cafe — Restaurant in Mesa

For delivery I ordered the border Benedict. The poached eggs where are poached perfectly. The poached eggs were on top of corn cakes, (that were delicious) and also a chopped meat. I forget if it the meat was to be beef or pork. Very easy to forget because it was little pieces of dried up black meat. The meat looked like they had reheated it from 2 days ago. On the menu it did not say that the sauce was spicy hot, but it was very spicy. The corn cakes cooled it down though when eaten together. Actually, when I opened the box I was shocked, and not because I was so pleased either. The poblano sauce looked absolutely grotesque and they smothered it all over everything. I wouldn't call it a sauce, it was thicker than ketchup. I can see why they wanted to cover everything because when I found the meat, it look like the little pieces were reheated from 2 days ago. They were dried up, shriveled and black. I was going to call them to give them an opportunity to address what I certainly detested. Unfortunately, they are closed in the afternoon. (understandable since they're a brunch & breakfast restaurant.) French toast must be their specialty. It was my side item. Just 1 piece of plain French toast, but absolutely so Delicious! I hope to try one of their more elaborate French toast menu items like the stuffed one with bananas sounds delicious too.. I have a recommendation for the restaurant. Do not the cover the styrofoam box with foil on the inside. Since I chose to eat right out of the box, my fork would run on the bottom and later to discover little pieces foil scraped off. so I don't know how much I ate. Again, Gross! I Highly Recommend their French toast. Sorry I had to complain...

I have now been to this place twice. The first time I went in I took my father and we were seated at the very far corner where they do all there dirty work and the next time I took my husband and two of my children (14 & 25) after waiting over 15 minutes I had to ask the lady at the register if there was anyone available to seat us and she said it was her but she’s busy. Being courteous and acknowledging people should be very high up on your list especially if you’re the hostess. When she finally walked us to a table she took us to a table that wasn’t ready and she proceeded to throw two extra utensils wrapped in a torn napkin on the table and walked away. My daughter actually THANKED her! the food is actually really good. I’ve enjoyed my food on both occasions and including our drinks. I thinks that for what you get in regards to food the price is right on point. I strongly believe the front staff needs more training because if they are only pleasant to the older generation and do not like serving to other cultures then they too will eventually close their doors. I want to be able to enjoy my food without becoming upset over how I’m being treated and or ignored. Especially when I felt I was talked down to! No food is that good if it’s starting with a horrible attitude. That young lady to avoid any issues; all she had to do was say “I will be with you shortly” or hey! Here’s a shocker ask for help since there was another lady who seemed to be just walking around talking to everyone except us. The four stars are all because...

I'm a middle-aged adult with autism, and I'm a picky eater.

I have a simple rating system: one star for every part of a burger meal I get (bun, meat, cheese, ketchup, and fries). No drink review, I drink water exclusively (which tasted fresh and very slightly sweet, so good there).

Today, I ordered the Old Reliable burger, so here we go!

Star #1, the bun: Lightly crispy on the inside, minimal grease actually on it. Excellent!

Star #2, the meat: I ordered it medium, and it was a little bit greasier than I'm truly comfortable with, but it was still delicious and cooked evenly. Great!

Star #3, the cheese: Good ol' American cheese. Tasty, not greasy itself, but it could've been melted a bit more. Great!

Star #4, the ketchup: Tastes like standard Heinz ketchup, my favorite. Excellent!

Star #5, the fries: My favorite part of this meal! They were cooked perfectly. Crispy and flakey outside, soft inside, extra salty, and served almost painfully hot in their own mini-bowl on top of the burger plate (fancy!). Deliciously excellent!

All in all, 5 stars!

Special shoutout to Juli, who was a fantastic waitress that served everything to us promptly and happily! Normally when I get a water refill, they overfill my cup a bit then just hand it to me dripping icy water, right over my food - but not Juli! She apologized for overfilling it, even though it didn't spill, and placed it in the spot behind my plate. Excellent service.
