The Kolache Cafe — Restaurant in Mesa

Came for the Grand Opening on Feb 16, 2025. They were offering 15% off and free coffee, based on their Instagram post, but you had to mention it instead of just giving you it.

I was really disappointed and will not be coming back.

Layout - the line was super confusing and people didn't know if they needed to wait at the counter after they ordered but it just caused congestion and the staff continued to take orders.

Service - when I ordered I mentioned the free coffee and the staff told me it was one per purchase, which was fine. I needed to share the Instagram post and received the coffee. I paid, then realized that I didn't get the 15% off. When I asked, the staff mentioned that I had to mention the offer and had to choose between the coffee or 15% off. It was not clear on the post and the staff did not mention anything. See Instagram post attached. Terms should be clear to the customer. After I mentioned this, the staff said I had already paid so there was nothing she could do. Poor service experience.

Food - underwhelming. Lots of bread vs. filling. Taste is nothing special. They heat up the box but it wasn't very hot despite eating in store. Coffee was basic. You add your own sugar and milk. Staff should ask if you want room in the cup...

While we ordered and didn’t dine in, we still had a bad experience the first time using these folks. I ordered myself and three kids breakfast and Red Bulls. I ordered “breakfast” ham and egg, chorizo and egg, bacon and egg, sausage and egg. What I received was brisket mash potato and cheese and Celsius. When I called the manager she claimed she didn’t know why Red Bull was on the menu and the reason I received brisket was because, to be more efficient, we substitute menu item for those that are ready at the time. “What?” She said it with a straight face I’m sure. No phone call, no respect when I called in and no offer to rectify my order or compensate for giving me the wrong order all together. I will never eat here again. As for the brisket………..mash potato and cheese? Was like eating a hot Smokey glue ball. It lacked texture and was unpalatable after one bite. The sweet ones we received were ok if you like someone else’s jelly on a piece of bread. Unimpressed. Shame on you for not making it right and...

I hate giving bad reviews to small businesses but I need to be honest. I know three stars isn't that bad but it is in my book. My wife won't eat at a place unless it has over a 4. Unless it's brand new place and understandably had a learning curve. That being said let's get reviewing. Wife and love kolaches.

We are not chefs but we are pretty good cooks and petty good at flavor.

I can only guess how these kolaches are made in this restaurant. And my guess is they start with Reese's frozen white rolls. Again, total guess but when I make simple frozen rolls at home these are them. Tasteless, plain, tasteless. Yes, wrote that twice. We ordered several different ones. The fillings were very similar. Almost tasteless. No seasoning. I didn't think any of the flavors touched salt. The only one with any flavor was BBQ stuffed but even it needed salt or pepper.

We had high hopes based on the previous reviews but we're disappointed.

We definitely won't be back.
