I dined at the Hooters restaurant located at 1665 S. Alma School Road in Mesa, Arizona on a Monday before noon. It had been many years since the last time I ate at this chain and I was not familiar with the menu. My server directed me to a table and requested my drink order. When she brought the Coca-Cola to my table, she did a thorough job suggestive-selling several menu items. I was interested in chicken wings, and she described the different options available. When I looked at the menu, I was surprised to see that they no longer offer plates with a dozen wings, which has been the standard for bars and restaurants that serve wings since the dawn of time. Instead, they sell orders of 10 wings. I ordered ten Naked Wings with medium sauce. The total on the receipt (delivered after the meal) was $23.69, which seems expensive for what I received. Looking at the bill, they charged me $1.39 for a tiny container of Ranch dressing to dip the wings in and a glass of Coca-Cola was $3.89. The wings were delivered to my table after a short time and they were hot and delicious. During my meal, my server stopped by to check up on me and suggestive-sell dessert items. When I finished eating, she removed the plates and having already done a great job of suggesting different food items including dessert, she was not pushy and offered to bring my bill while also allowing me the opportunity to order more if I wanted. I requested the bill and she brought it to my table pretty quickly and said she would handle the payment. My server could not have been nicer or done a better job – Five stars for the service. As I was entering the tip on the portable card reader, the math did not add up. The total was $24.58 and I was willing to offer a generous tip for the great service. I like round numbers, and entered $5.42 (23%) for the tip for a total charge of $30.00. The next screen showed that it was going to charge me $30.20, and not the even 30 dollars it should have been. I told her that the math was not adding up correctly and she explained what’s essentially dynamic pricing for credit card customers (the practice of varying the price for a product or service). I re-entered the tip at $5.22 (20¢ less to keep the $30.00 total) and then the reader produced a total of $29.99. It wasn’t a straight up 20¢ reduction due to the dynamic pricing. As I’m writing my review, I noticed that the sale amount on the credit card printout was $24.77*, and not $23.69 like the receipt shows, which is a full 9.6% increase compared to what the receipt shows for the food bill plus tax. I’m not sure if this difference is part of the dynamic pricing or if Hooters simply padded my bill, hoping I would not notice. Either way, they should clearly inform customers about their pricing policy which comes across as deceptive. It’s no wonder the corporation had to declare bankruptcy on March 31, 2025. Great service, horrible business practices! I won’t be back.
NOTE: Three different totals before...
Read moreI'm SO sad! My last experience here was so terrible my fiance' doesnt allow us to go here anymore. Up until like a month ago he used to take me every Wednesday and it was the highlight of my week I always looked forward to because these are my favorite wings. Wednesdays are usually busy due to "all you can eat wings" but we always know that. This past time we went, the waitress sat us down and took our orders. It took about 10 minutes- no biggie. When our food was brought to us we asked to put in an order for our next 5 wings immediately because we knew it would take a little bit. She came to get our plates about 15 minutes later...no update on our order we just put in. To make a long story short- we waited 45 minutes without her even coming over to update us, offer us a refill, it was like she was purposefully truing to avoid us. During that time she sat a gentleman right in front of us and tended to him several times while seemingly trying to avoid eye contact with us. After 45 minutes I had to get up and ask another waitress to bring us our check as our waitress wont even come to our table. She got the manager and he apologized for the delay as the kitchen was backed up, but I don't think he understood that we weren't upset about the back up in the kitchen. We understand that's not the waitresses fault. But to ignore your table for 45 minutes? We would've ordered multiple drinks and she could've gotten a pretty decent tip out of us. Blatantly ignored us. Anyway- the manager asked us what we ordered and we insisted that at that point we weren't even interested in food anymore- we just wanted to pay our bill and leave. He was nice enough to bring us out a few boxed wings even tho thats not something thats usually done. We still waited another 10 minutes for our check. The manager came back and asked "She still hasn't come with the check?" NOPE! She sure hadn't. He went and got her and she shyly came over to our table whispering "sorry the kitchen is busy." This infuriated us even more. The decent thing to do would have been to come at least let us know that! Offer us a refill! SOMETHING! She took zero accountability for the fact she hadn't even acknowledged us for 45 minutes yet had been to the table in front of us multiple times...and the restaurant wasn't even half as full as it usually gets. My fiance' is a very generous tipper and this was the first time I had EVER witnessed him not leave a tip. We left extremely hungry, thirsty, and paid $40 for it. I've begged to go back just because I want the wings and he won't budge. That waitress has no business in hospitality, and if it wasn't for her piss poor customer service I'd still be here every...
Read moreSo tonight was the worst experience I've had at a Hooters. This was supposed to be a great night watching the fights but instead because of two of your employees became a nightmare. At first all was well except it was still warm out and one heater having been on for to long making one of the outside patio tables to hot. The female manager came out to see if it was okay to turn it off for some of the customers, which of course my table of 6 replied that it was fine as it was still warm out. As the night continues and it becomes increasingly colder multiple tables have asked for the heater to be turned back on. My table becomes increasingly upset with this issue. Now just as one of the premiere fight is about to begin new issues have become apparent such as our waitress kaitlin(or however its spelled) has become rude, forgetful and down right unprofessional and the male manager Scott had spoken out to us on the patio the the heater would NOT be turned on again although multiple tables asking for it to be on including the original table who wanted it off. As this happens the waitress continues with her poor attitude and service become rude when I spoke to her about getting a coffee because I was cold now with the temp at 55°. She slowly responded to my polite excuse me with attitude and the looked dumbfounded that I'd request that but said yes it'll take 5 minutes. Unfortunately I didn't know 5 minutes meant 20. Now before I can even receive my coffee a confrontation between the male manager Scott and my friends father had begun over the lack of heat and yes cursing had begun because of this upset and the managers unwillingness to rectify the heat issue or even discuss as to why. As this confrontation becomes worse with no attempt on the mangers end just unbelievable comments and threats. We as a group of 6 people the only ones willing to be loud at our upset were kicked out due to our table cursing about this horrible disregard of over 9 peoples discomfort and displeasure made by the waitress and manager. We're also threatened with the cops...
