This place is overrated with offensively rude staff. My wife and I visited Pubbelly for dinner while vacationing. We had reservations, but upon arrival our table wasn’t ready yet - no big deal, we weren’t in a rush and went to the bar for a drink at the host’s suggestion. Before we were even planted on the barstool, we were approached by a waitress asking for our drink order. Apparently asking for a minute to look over the menu was the wrong move because we were ignored in the time that followed. Finally the manager came over and took our drink order. Before we were served the drinks, our table was ready so we got settled for the outdoor dining. Our waiter came over shortly thereafter and was so unwelcoming and crass. We had some questions, but feeling rushed and suspecting the waiter didn’t want to be bothered, we just placed an order for whatever caught our eye (2 rolls, an appetizer, and a dinner). Last second I ask the waiter what he recommends off the menu, and added that item as well. The food was served quickly and was visually appealing, but it was nothing to write home about. The sushi rolls were fine, but unremarkable, same sushi I get in NJ. The spare rib dinner was inedible - sauce was good but the ribs were so fatty I couldn’t get a bite. Unimpressed, we decide against dessert and my wife asks for the check. I’m not sure if they didn’t want us there, but our request for the bill finally prompted a quick response from service. Our bill was roughly $140, shown to me on a mobile check by the waiter. I asked to glance at it again, because he took it away without giving me the opportunity to review it. He obliges and stands there as I take out cash from my wallet. I give him $140, waiting a moment for him to go retrieve the dollar and change I was owed back. This guy literally stood there waiting for his tip, eavesdropping as I consulted with my wife about it. He overhears my wife say to give him $30, after she confirms with him that gratuity was not included. Even though the food and service wasn’t great, we always try to tip decent since we acknowledge this is the waiters livelihood. So, sensing this waiter won’t leave our table without his money in hand, I take out more cash and hand him $40, since I had no smaller bills. He proceeds to rudely say “change?” and so frustrated, I literally got up and walked away. this guy never said thank you, so intrusively hovered over my wife and I during a private conversation and then acted greedily and rude. Avoid this place at all cost, not...
Read moreLove this place, great food and fusion, love the atmosphere. Happy hour is very neat and I tried several cocktails, very interesting. I really recommend coming to eat there. They have good service and nice variety. We usually share several plates. Tuna crispy rice, salmon pizza, tuna and salmon tacos are fantastic.
I am updating my review The south beach location is great also Aventura is ok, but we had a terrible experience at the Brickell location, be aware, this location I would give them 1 star. This is the last time that I’m getting near the place. The service is unprofessional, the manager was terrible. We were on the waiting list around 9 and they said that probably it will take 30-40 min. We decided to grab a drink at the bar before having a table. At the menu online it explicitly said that the happy hour starts at 9pm. But in that location the bartender was acting nasty and questioned me with that information. After showing him that he is wrong, the manager agreed for one drink of the happy hour without the menu of the happy hour! We usually like to combine the regular menu with the happy hour one. After staying and having several drinks (BTW at the final check they didn’t take off happy hour drink at all!), just at 10:15 we got a table!!! And when we asked for the happy hour menu, the manager informed us in a nasty way that the happy hour is just on the bar! (In other locations we had happy hour on regular table). After sitting 75 minutes on the bar and also during happy hour it thought that maybe they will be a little bit thoughtful, but no, not to mention that the service was bad. We don’t mind to spend on good food, but having such a terrible service and no consideration for a returning costumer (in average we went there at list once a month) never again. I am never coming back, and yes there are mani better sushi restaurants then Pubbelly. N O T R E C O M M E...
Read moreMy fiancé and I had a spectacular dinner, served to us by an outstanding waitress this past week. We had the 5 course, 10 plate, chef's choice seasonal tasting and every dish was unique and extremely pleasing.
We started out wandering into the wrong restaurant, Pubbelly Sushi (I think that was the name) right next door, and I actually thought about staying. We both love sushi, but being a manager in the business I couldn't bring myself to skip out of our reservation. I'm glad we didn't.
When we made our way into Pubbelly proper initially I was kind of put off. When we walked in we were greated by a gentleman whom I could only guess as the maitre d'. Being a Wednesday at the end of April, really the end of season, it was a pretty slow night. The first thing I said to the gentleman was that we had a reservation, the second thing I said was a laughing "guess I didn't need one". He didn't crack a smile and had nothing to say, at that moment - like I said earlier - I was kind of put off.
However, thankfully, that feeling was extremely fleeting, with no small part do to the very knowledgeable, extremely upbeat and out going, smiling at every corner, lovely Argentinian waitress. Couple that with an extraordinary dinner, and it didn't matter in the slightest that the aloof host?? was watching the playoff game instead of the dining room (I feel that he was a manager, however if I'm wrong and he's only a host someone should be sh!# canned)
Again, spectacular meal with superb service (TV guy aside). We would both go back in a second and have already, not three days past spoken highly of the establishment and wished that we could steal the waitress and bring her up to Palm...
