I pre-ordered 5 items at 8:30am for pickup at 2pm and when I got to the bakery, my order was nowhere to be seen in the pickup section. Additionally, my full order couldn't just be assembled because, at this point, 3 of the 5 items I ordered had sold out.
First, I was told that the cause was a website malfunction, by the employee serving me. Then, when I spoke to the manager, apparently another customer had most likely taken my order (my order with my very unique name on it). To be honest, the cause of this particular situation doesn't matter as either way it's just disappointing and unprofessional.
Based on what the manager told me, I understand that the bakery has some regular customers, and maybe, potentially, they’ll feel offended by being asked to show proof of their order but I feel offended that their supposed needs are being put above other customer’s needs. If people are allowed to just walk in and take their order without consulting any staff, in the worst case, anyone can pretend to be another person and take that person's order for free.
I was asked whether I would like a replacement or refund but honestly, they should’ve offered at least something for free for my unmet expectations and my time and money wasted, since I drove 30 minutes to get here. That is good customer service.
And yes, it is the bakery's fault and responsibility if a customer takes my order because that just means that the bakery doesn't have a proper verification system in place for...
Read moreRecently making news when a rival bakery gifted them a new Sourdough starter it can safely be said that True Loaf Bakery hasn’t missed a beat, owner Tomas Strulovic still greeting long lines and prone to selling out of popular items early on weekends.
Sabotaged by a failed air conditioner in July, Zak Stern of Zak the Baker coming through to replace True Loaf’s starter, Saturday morning found the space at 1894 Bay Road fully packed though those with the foresight to pre-order were met with absolutely no wait.
Aggressive for such a small space, items ranging from Viennoserie to Donuts, fans of Brenton Butter Pastries will note True Loaf’s Kouign Amann exceptional thanks to faultless lamination while the Almond Croissant is fairly flaccid without much flavor besides the Sugar and Nuts on top.
Accepting the assignment for Donut flavors in Miami, both Guava Cheese and Dulce de Leche piped inside Brioche performing admirably, there’s something to be said about the nostalgia of an Oatmeal Cookie and from the crisp rim to soft center filled with warm aromatics Strulovic’s is a...
Read moreI blame the ridiculous real estate prices for a $5 croissant and a small skinny sandwich for $10. Those plus an Orangina and a 1$ tip ran me about $21. They don't post prices, but that's part of the appeal.
I appreciate the one customer at a time policy during Covid. It's not a lot of space, so it makes us feel safe as my wife is immuno-compromised.
The food is good, but it looks better than it tastes to be honest. I would call it almost premium food is a premium neighborhood. It reminds me of The Salty Doughnut in Wynwood. High Instagram-ability food, but just decent to good on the palate. Nothing spectacular.
Their saving grace really is the service. They are very nice, helpful and friendly. It's probably what keeps me coming back. That and the lack of similar options in the area.
I'm happy for people who can afford to eat here as their regular bakery. It is unfortunate that they are prohibitively expensive for the average person to eat here more than once in a while. But like I said in the beginning, it's more the booming real estate affecting prices...
