I went to this place only because someone visiting from out of town wanted to try Venezuelan food, which I do love—but I find it ridiculously overpriced for what it is. In fact, I’ve stopped going to Venezuelan restaurants because of their absurd prices.
Anyway, we walked into this place, and immediately, it had a strange smell—a mix of incense and cheap disinfectant. I ordered an arepa for $16.50—yes, $16.50 for an arepa that, in the photos, looked huge and packed. When it arrived at the table, it wasn’t even half of what it appeared to be. I also ordered a soda and a bottle of water, and my total bill, including taxes, came to $30—for an arepa, a soda, and water. Why? Because they can’t give you a glass of water like any other restaurant in the world. Instead, they make you buy a bottle of water, which—coincidentally—costs the same as the soda.
Venezuelan food spots are seriously overpriced. I’ve already decided I’m done with these places that charge outrageous prices. Honestly, they could close them all for all I care. Most of them are run by people trying to get rich overnight by selling $20 arepas and empanadas.
I’ll never come back to this place. Oh, and by the way, the arepa was pre-cooked and frozen—yes, that $16.50 mini...
Read moreFound this cute little spot on UberEats and WOW! Did not expect this to be a life changing experience. Ordered their Pabellón arepa which was pretty tasty and filling, as well as a side of guava/cheese tequeños and WHEWWWWW! HOLY LAWRDYYYY! Can I just tell you, prepare for your mouth to salivate EVERY time you remember them after you try them. Life changing experience to the point I will put up with my lactose intolerance just to have another bite. Of course the next day, I tried to reorder them in Costco quantities, but sadly they were closed my heart and soul cried the whole day. Thankfully they have reopened and I can satisfy this beautiful carb filled craving. This time I ordered the guava/cheese tequeños and the only cheese tequeños and OH BOY, were they good! BEST tequeños in Miami, that’s for sure!
I’ll definitely be ordering from arepa bar many many many more times!! Rip my...
Read moreMy family and I rarely eat out. However, we went as a group yesterday afternoon to eat at the Arepa Bar in Wynwood Miami. One thing we didn't like was you cant see the kitchen at all, it was very stuffy and hot, since it was cool outside I guess they didn't have any a/c on. We ordered Arepas peluas which they said was the most popular. We didn't eat anything afterward. But in the middle of the night, one after the other had stomach cramps and nausea followed by severe diarrhea. Needless to say, it was overpriced for a single arepa no sides $13, and on top of all that we got sick. We looked today at inspections done by the health department and they just had an inspection about two weeks ago. but at one point had a problem with leaving prepared meat out overnight. I guess it hasn't changed. Definitely not recommended unless you want to spend your night in the toilet and miss work...
