I fell for the hype and pulled up to the Citadel to manje at "Manjay." My 1st impression walking in was that this entire spot is a vibe. They had a dj playing on the night I visited. It wasn't too loud, and it was a nice size crowd flowing throughout the building. However, it was a little too dark for my liking. I could barely see the food on my plate because of the lightning. I didn't really like the fact that I couldn't see what was going on around me. When I walked up to the register, an older guy took our order. To be honest, my biggest and only complaint about my visit is customer service. I don't care what country you're from; learn to be polite to your patrons. Moun Ayisyen, we need to do better. Epi dats et.... I ordered the jerk chicken, and it was well seasoned. My chicken was a little cold, but maybe it's because they got my plantain order wrong, and I had to wait for them to fry my plantain straws. I didn't bring it to their attention because their attitude was already nasty. I wanted to limit my interaction with them. My friend got the griot, and it was ok. I've had better from the local Haitian restaurant in the city. It was a little tough and lacked epis (seasoning). I'm not going to lie; the rice and beans were delicious. We also did an order of Conch fritters, and they didn't miss a beat with that. It's was cooked to perfection. So full of great flavors. The creamy dipping sauce they gave us for was spicy but in a good way. I would purchase that sauce; that's how good it was. Chef kiss. Good job on that I would recommend this spot despite their lack of good customer service skills. Next time I'm here, I'll definitely visit the other restaurants inside the Citadel.

The day I came across Manjay I’ve been going there ever since, I really love the food. I usually go to Doral location, but today I had a very bad experience. My spouse was in town and she heard about Manjay so she wanted to try it, I was so happy to take her to the location in Miami. It turned out to be a bad experience, a black girl that put our order in wasn’t welcoming at all, terrible service to be honest the way she was rushing us to pick the sides like she wasn’t helping at all, very was poor service/communication. My wife looked at me and I felt so bad because this was unexpected. Finally, we got called for our food, I asked her nicely for a dressing for my wife order the same employee told me no it’s extra for it (the jerk shrimp) doesn’t come with dressing, with such a bad tone I went back and asked the other Spanish employee, why is she acting like that, I didn’t like the service, she again jumped to the conversation to confront me about the situation. I mentioned to her I met the owner in Doral before and he was very nice, she said to me she doesn’t care. So, Service is 👎 to me, will not come back again and will not recommended.

Quick lunch stop at the Citadel, this sounded like something different and worth trying. It was good, not great but food had a little flavor to it. Opted for the jerk shrimp instead of chicken to try something new but it wasn’t as spicy as I would’ve wanted it to be. Rice was a little on the bland and the tostones were ok I guess. For $35 I’d expect a more generous portion as I was still hungry after this tease of a portion. Also the service wasn’t the best or the worst. After getting my food I asked the manager onsite for the Wifi password and she acted as if she was annoyed by my question and again when I asked for the utensils. This is not the type of joint to feel entitled or as if they have the type of cloud to treat people like that but that’s what o got. I will not be coming back or recommending but that comes with the territory I guess. They also took the mushroom rice off the menu because the owner, who showed up later on, mentioned it was too expensive to buy so that was a bummer as well. That’s the second joint in this food hall that has been disappointing so it will be my last visit for damn sure.

Nothing special or spectacular about the food. I was excited to try this Caribbean restaurant but left completely disappointed. I ordered the Caribbean Conch Fritters ($13) and Jerk Chicken Bowl with Rice and Beans and Banan Payzay ($17).

The prices are ridiculous for the mediocre food and the small portions. The portion size for my main dish (Jerk Chicken Bowl) was for a kid! For $17, that’s ridiculous! The Jerk Chicken barely had any chicken and the outside was panko fried. It had more panko on the outside than chicken and it was over fried making it hard to bite into. I only ate half of the Jerk Chicken Bowl because it was not edible.

The conch fritters were the only item that I found to be delicious and somewhat satisfying, except the portion was for a child, especially for $13.

While eating my meal, I took a look at my receipt and noticed they added a Service Charge (10%). I didn’t know of this service charge nor was this charge displayed on the computer screen (pretty shady of Manjay Restaurant) when I paid for my order….and, unknowingly, I included a tip. Seeing the 10% service charge on my receipt got me upset because the ONLY service provided was the woman ringing up my damn food order! I think I was being more than generous giving them a tip for no actual service provided and then they have the audacity to include a “10% service charge”.

Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this place. However, if you have money to lose and enjoy eating mediocre food, then this...
