We reserved a party of 15 including small children. The party ended up being 13. We had 2 birthdays and mentioned in advance. They said they don't do anything but we brought a cake and they stored it and brought out serving items for us at the end. We were told we could come a little early but when I arrived 15 mins early they had us wait while they set up. We had a really nice waitress who was as efficient as she could be. She should have had someone bus for her because she was having difficulty keeping up. We ordered a couple of appetizers. I ordered calamari. It was supposed to have "gingered slaw" per the menu instead had ginger sauce on it, no slaw. Calamari was pretty chewy, I wouldn't order it again. 2 orders of mozzarella sticks were ordered. We had to send one back because it was cold inside. She brought us 1 basket of bread at the beginning and said more was coming. That basket of bread was dark and crispy. The next basket didn't come till after the salads and was pale and underdone. The butter is whipped and sweetened and I asked for some plain. Had to ask a second time and didn't get it till after the entrees. Salad was family style and tasty. We asked for ranch, Italian and blue cheese. They were served in little cups on a plate that lay inside the large bowl on top of the salad. The table was set up with a stack of bread plates, salad bowls, etc. With all that and the dishes from appetizers, water, silverware, etc it was very crowded. Very difficult to feel comfortable. The waitress was so busy that very little bussing was done. We tried to help by stacking things after we were finished but the dishes just kept piling up. There was no blue cheese dressing served and I had to ask a second time and it came after the main courses were served. Most of us got steaks and baked potatoes. Baked potatoes were tasty but there was mixed quality regarding the steaks and their doneness. My strip was dry, chewy and a little overdone. Others were overcooked as well. Some, mostly the filets were ok. We were offered to take some back but after waiting and all the confusion we said no. The manager came after the meal and apologized. We were over it. All in all for being a Brown Derby, which I've been to several over the last 50 + years I was very disappointed. Also we chose this place because we wanted steak. Could have gone to a steakhouse for much less for similar or better quality. Even though the waitress tried very hard, the service fell short for a party our size on a Saturday. Most of us would not be back. The big joke was for a steakhouse, our one vegetarian said she got the best meal with her...
Read moreStopped in this evening for a date night dinner, and neither of us had been to a Brown derby for over a decade. We waited no time for a table at 7pm on a Friday night. Once seated we waited between 5-10 minutes before Toni had stopped over asking if anyone had greeted us yet. We said no, and she said she was happy to take care of us for the night. After about 10-15 minutes of looking over the menu we ordered wings as an appetizer and asked for another 5+ minutes to look over the menu for our entrees which ended up being around 7:35 when we ordered. Our wings arrived and they were just ok. Certainly not Jumbo as the menu describes but tasted fine. We weren't served rolls or salad until maybe 7:45. The rolls were burnt but the salad was good. A TON of onions, but the ranch tastes homemade. After finishing salad and most of the wings we sat and waited patiently for our entrees. Around 815 we started to see other tables that sat after us had their food and Toni had already stopped by checking to see if we had ours yet, and when she noticed we hadn't, said that it should be out any minute. Another 10 min goes by, no food. Witnessed a table across the dining room that was sat well after we ordered, have their food delivered also. Toni stopped by again around 8:25 claiming one of the steaks was burnt and they just started a replacement, as well as the other steak so it wasn't cold. This is at 50 min wait for entrees. Our steaks were delivered between 8:45- 8:50! Fries were cold. The tbone steak that was supposedly burnt and recooked was at most half an inch thick, overcooked and dry. The other steak was also overcooked but not dry. Neither steak had any seasoning. we don't usually use steak sauce but these steaks NEEDED it. We got dessert which was very small for $8. All in all, we wont be coming back. No discount for waiting almost hour and a half for food. If it weren't for Toni being extremely friendly and trying to be helpful, we would have walked out. They also charge a 3% fee if you pay with a credit card which is insane. Customers should not have to cover your business expenses when you set your own prices and pay half your staff $4 per hour. There are better steak houses around...
Read moreI made a reservation at this location for Father’s Day 3 weeks in advance. Everything went well when I made it and I was excited to take my Dad out to what I thought was a nice restaurant for Father’s Day. When we arrived I told the hostess I had a reservation and gave my name, she proceeded to tell me I didn’t have one, so I calmly told her I do and there must be a misunderstanding. She looked at a post it note and went “ohh yeah here you are, I didn’t have you written down in the reservations section” I said ok well I’m glad you found us and we’d like to be seated. She goes “well you can wait like 15 minutes” now I’m thinking this is unacceptable for a reservation, I understood that I may have to wait a few minutes if my table is being prepared but she acted like my reservation was worthless but I said ok because I wanted to give my Dad a nice meal for Father’s Day. So me and my family waited and as time went on multiple families poured in, a good amount of them told the hostesses they didn’t have a reservation and were seated immediately. So this didn’t sit well with me and I approached the hostess and a manger had also showed up at the podium where you check into the restaurant. We had waited about 10 min at this point and the fact that they were seating walk ins and ignoring my reservation was unacceptable. I went to the manger and hostess and explained that I had a reservation and what they were doing was wrong because I had priority over walk ins. The manger proceeded to tell me I’m on a wait list and I told him no I’m not. Even the hostess reiterated the I had a reservation to him, and he told me to go wait because according to him my reservation didn’t exist. At this point me and my family left and went to a lovely Mexican restaurant a few doors down. I wanted to treat my Dad to a nice steak but Brown Derby of Middleburg Heights absolutely failed. I’d give 0 stars if I could. The service was horrible and the manger was an absolute ass about everything. Do yourself a favor and enjoy McDonald’s over this sad joke of a fine...
