Hunan Bistro Middletown — Restaurant in Middletown

Update: The parent company who runs online ordering for this restaurant, "Chinese Takeout", reached out to me via email to ask why I filed a chargeback dispute through my credit card and offered me a gift card to dismiss the dispute. Hilariously, the gift card amount is less than the money we paid for food that we never received. Had a horrible experience here that I wanted to share.

I placed a pickup order that was supposed to be ready at 6:10. I got there at 6:10 and it wasn’t ready yet, which is understandable because it was pretty busy. The lady I sat down next to told me she had been there over an hour. Someone else asked when their food would be pretty and they told her “I don’t know, we’re busy”.

At about 6:30 I finally just told them to cancel the order and I was told it was being boxed up. Another woman who was already angry when I got there told them to cancel her order at that time and they said they can’t because she paid online.

At 7:00, I let my wife know what was taking so long and she called the store - they told her the order would be at least two more hours. Keep in mind the store closes at 9:00. When she asked them to cancel the order, they hung up on her.

At that point I asked again for my order to be canceled and was told that they somehow couldn't find it. I showed them the charge on my credit card and they told me to call the customer service number... whatever that means.

So I guess what I need to do now is dispute the charge with my credit card company and let them deal with it.

Shockingly poor service...

I dined here with my wife and grandmother on Christmas day. This was our first time at Hunan Bistro, and it did not disappoint!

I had the Szechuan tofu, my wife had fried rice, and my grandmother had the sweet and sour chicken.

I've been trying to add more protein to my vegetarian diet, and the tofu selection at the Hunan Bistro is extensive. The portion size was generous, the presentation was nice, and the flavor was off the charts. I enjoyed everything about my meal, including the spring roll appetizer.

The service was great. Our server made sure our drinks were full and we had all that we needed throughout the dining experience.

Since it was Christmas day, they offered complimentary cake to all of their dine in guests. Like the rest of the meal, it was excellent!

The restaurant was very clean, the service was excellent and the food was very good. This was our first time here. We've had lots of different Asian food across the tri-state, and this is now our favorite place. We ordered Bourbon Chicken, Chicken Pad Thai and Chicken Lo Mein. You can tell everything was fresh and prepared with care. They even brought us complimentary wafer cookies for our 18 month old daughter while we were waiting for our food to come out. The owner/operators obviously take pride in this restaurant. Probably the best Lo Mein we've ever had. I usually don't write reviews on here, but we were so impressed that it was the least I could do. And in case anyone is wondering, they let us know that they are open...
