This location, in Middletown, Kentucky, is the original location of Mark's Feed Store. There are other locations in the Louisville Metro area.
The Middletown restaurant, in business for several decades, occupies the site of historic Hancock Feeds, a supplier of livestock feed and farm supplies during much of the Twentieth Century, and the inspiration for the name of the restaurant. Most of the original building has been incorporated in the present facility, creating a rustic, almost primitive atmosphere.
Meats are smoked on site.
The menu offers a good selection of Bar-B-Q and side dishes, including desserts. Bar-B-Q meats include beef brisket, pork, ribs and chicken. Sandwiches, platters and dinners are offered.
A good selection of sides includes particularly tasty fries, available with tangy Cajun seasoning. Other featured side items include "Onion Straws" and sweet fried corn on the cob. The "Onion Straws consist of very thin pieces of french fried onions with a unique tangy flavor. Difficult to describe with words, but delicious.
I particularly recommend the burgoo, a traditional regional dish tracing it's origins to primitive hunter's stew. Burgoo is not a well known dish and there is no standard recipe. Each burgoo cook has his own recipe and they vary greatly from one to another.
The buttermilk pie is a featured dessert among other delicious choices.
Three distinctly different Bar-B-Q sauces are available, all Mark's own recipes. In addition to salt and pepper shakers, a shaker containing spicy Cajun seasoning is provided on every table. (At the suggestion of this reviewer when a customer more than twenty years ago)
The facility appears to be well managed and the quality of food and service has been constantly good for many years.
In addition to table service, food is also served at a small bar. Both call-ahead and walk in carry-out service is prompt and very popular .
The atmosphere is primitive / rustic and very casual. Extremely kid friendly too.
Reservations are accepted only during very busy times, and always for groups. Flexible table arrangements can accommodate groups of modest size. Call-ahead notice is highly recommend for larger groups.
Complete catering service is available as well as large quantity carry-out orders for parties and larger events. Delivery of large orders can be arranged.
Although rustic, the facility is clean and we'll maintained.
A free parking lot is convenient and sometimes crowded at busy times. A limited number of free curbside spaces are also available on an adjacent street.
The entrances, restrooms and most of the dining room appear to be wheelchair accessible, however moderately steep inclines in the parking lot and near the entrances may be difficult for some.

On 7/10/24 we had 20 Residents of the Swan Pointe HOA go to have dinner at Mark’s Feed Store in Middletown. We ate in the enclosed porch area and our server this night was Ethan H. He did the best job going around and introducing himself and collecting the beverage orders from us while we were all arriving, getting seated and checking out the menu. I think that their most popular orders from us tonight were Ribs, Chicken Wings, Briskett, BBQ Pork, Beef, Chicken and Turkey. They also have Cheeseburgers that we ordered that really tasted better than the last cookout we went to. They were on great big buns with Lettuce, Tomatoes, Onions, and Pickles. There was a great variety of sides to choose from. We really had a great time talking to each other while Ethan went around the table taking orders. He was really quick in taking the orders, he did a great job. We met Susan, the Marketing Manager. Very soon the food trays started coming out. The entees were quickly delivered and everyone started eating. I forgot to take pictures of the food because I was so hungry!! While it was quiet from everyone eating, Ethan went back around the tables telling everyone his name again and checking on refills. As we were finishing up eating, boxes were passed out for the leftovers and the checks. Settling the bills went very well and we all agreed that Nathan had been a really great server. Taking care of 20 people with 1 server, nerver went so smoothly. He was so friendly and kind. We really had...
Read moreMark's Feed Store is one of the top-rated BBQ joints in Louisville, showing up in almost every "10 ten BBQ in Louisville " list that I googled. I was excited to try this place as I had a tremendous experience at another local BBQ place the night before. I ordered a combo plate that gives you a sampling of 4 of their meats--3 ribs, pulled pork, brisket and honey wings. I got the fries and mac n cheese for my two sides. IMO, the reason to come to Mark's---the ribs. Fantastic flavor, moist and meaty. Hands down my favorite of the 4 meats--5 stars. Next the honey wings. It had lots of breading, but was still so good. The honey sauce makes these wings next level good. I would've liked a little heat with the honey but still 5 stars for the wings. Next, the pulled pork wasn't bad, it was just average, not a ton of smoked flavor. 3 stars for the pork. Then comes the brisket. It was more like a pot roast texture, stringy. It was dry and lacked flavor. I was disappointed. The sides were good with the fries being better than the mac n cheese, but both good. Their original sauce is mustard based and was very, very good. Their red sauce was ok. Service was good with extra points for the super perky hostess. Also, Mark's is reasonably priced for BBQ. I'd come back for the ribs and wings for sure. Maybe it was an off night for the...
