Vecchitto's Italian Ice — Restaurant in Middletown

Well I have passed this place for years on our way to dine at various restaurants in downtown Middletown. Today we finally stopped today to try the Italian Ice since it’s a warm day. I rarely leave a negative review but everything about this place was a negative experience. We walked in and there was no line. The only person working, a middle aged man, didn’t greet us and kept doing some kind of chore even though clearly we were standing at the counter to order and no one else was there. Going in and out of the front room. After about 5 minutes he said “When you’re ready I can take your order.” To which we said we had been ready. We each ordered a different flavor. The employee didn’t thank us. Didn’t crack a smile. Least congenial employee ever. As far as the ices-zero flavor for the blue raspberry. So glad I got a small. I actually threw most of it out! Having traveled reasonably extensively, I can say that there is really nowhere else that serves Italian ice like Vecchitto's. The thing I love most is that it still smells the same inside, and the ice still TASTES the same, as it did when I was 6 years old - also the same as when my dad was coming when HE was a kid! There are more flavors now than the 3 or 4 that used to be standard 30 years ago, but the white paper cups are the same, and the Lemon, Watermelon, Banana, and Root Beer, my go-to flavors, haven't changed a bit. Middletown's treasure. All other Italian ice will be ruined for you after you eat here. Vecchitto's texture is unlike anything you've had before -- smooth and creamy, even though there's no dairy in it. Super affordable ($2.25 for a 2 scoop cup at the time of this review.) Take a bunch of friends, all get different flavors, and pass them around. Be adventurous with your flavor choices, too -- there are no weak ones! Parking can be a little hairy when it's packed.
