I meant to write this one up sooner, but i'm getting to it now. First, if you're going here for lunch/brunch I was told they don't offer one on Sunday's at least. Which means if you were looking to have something off the lunch menu won't be available. Also make sure your wallet is fat! For starters the empanadas were an excellent choice! I don't recall if they were a special or everything that was in them. I do remember they were chicken and that there wasn't enough I them! Now that I'm thinking of them I want more. My main meal was duck with blueberry sauce. I'm a big Dan of duck and this did not disappoint. The risotto was very good as well & the garlic spinach was perfect. It's a good thing I took pictures of the steak, it didn't last very long on that plate. This may have been a special also? Dessert was a lemon mousse. Now I like lemon & love mousse, I'm not sure I like them together? This may make you pucker! It is lemon heavy. Texture was fine, though it reminded me of cheese cake. All in all it was very good. Now the one thing that was lacking, and this can be a big problem, was service. There were only two other people here and service was very slow to non existent. If you're thirsty when you get there order heavy, you may not be asked again.... I'd like to get back here soon and actually try their lunch menu. It looked more interesting.

I've visited El Pulpo when they were in Southington and this was my first visit to their Middletown location. I'll get my one piece of negative feedback out of the way quick...the service was a bit slow. However, it was Mother's Day and in general, people need to relax and give service industry an opportunity to recover. Also, US is the only place in the world that rushes through their meals. Sit back and enjoy. We had a variety of tapas, and they were all delicious. - Mediterranean Salad (Cauliflower, tomatoes, artichokes, asparagus, eggplant, cucumber, olives, and tarragon garlic per vinaigrette & grilled shrimp) was superb. - Salmon Tartare with avocado served with potatoes chips was very tasty. - Pan seared crab cake served with sautéed vegetables and lobster champagne sauce was very flavorful. - Oysters were huge! - Rack of lamb, with beats and sweet potato pure was delicious. - Chorizo/fig in balsamic reduction was yummy. - And to end it all, we had crème-brule. It was a great time spent (we polished off a rather large bottle of wine), with very friendly service. Can't wait to go back!

We've been here several times and it never disappoints. The staff here are always so nice and welcoming. The dinning area is nice and quiet but I like the bar side more, it just seems a bit more lively. Must depend on the crowd. I was never really a fan of sangria until I came here. They make the BEST sangria I have ever had. Hands down. And the best part is, it's not a fluke. Everytime, the sangria still tastes amazing. Once you have it here, you won't be able to have it anywhere else. Now for the food. On Mondays and Tuesdays they have a price fixe menu, which is a good deal. Every single thing I have ever eaten here is phenomenal. We usually just do tapas and my favorite is the piquillo peppers stuffed with shredded lamb. To die for!! We've had a lot of the other tapas items and they are all very good too. Take the time to make a visit. You won't regret it.

Went here for lunch with my boyfriend. We sat inside- the atmosphere was kind of outdated. The type of place where you can see dust collected on the leaves of the fake plants. It took a looooong time for us to be waited on but there were only 4 other parties in the entire restaurant... we joked about how maybe the waiter was cooking the food himself. I ordered a chicken dish with veggies. Again, took a long time for not being busy (40 minutes at least). My chicken was ridiculously dry to the point where I almost gaged from chewing so much. Portions were small for the price but I ate everything considering I was extremely hungry and on a low carb diet (so I couldn’t eat much else on the menu). Sauce was delicious and the only reason I could eat the chicken. Saw a female employee come in during the end of our meal and it went downhill from there. My boyfriend ended up ordering dessert and after 20 more minutes my boyfriend actually had to go and get our waiter to remind him that we were there (he was busy flirting with the other employee that had just come in). I always leave a 20% or more tip, but this time we left 10%. Huge waste of time and money- I will...

I see a lot or the reviews say this place is amazing, however that was nothing like my experience there, I'm from Spain and I can say first hand they're food is inedible and no where near authentic even though they claim they specialize in traditional Mediterranean food, my paella de mariscos was an embarrassment they served me a layer of yellow rice burned around the edges with 5 shrimpy muscles 2 of which were unopened (meaning they're no good),1 clam, 2 shrimps and 2 1 inch by 2 inch pieces of salmon, i tasted no saffron in it i took three bites and could not eat any more, i went with my family of five and they also could not enjoy their food. Don't even get me started on the terrible service, they brought us water and menus and proceeded to leave for 20 minutes, they only brought bread when it customers starte arriving when she came back twenty minutes later she told us the paella took 40 minutes to make, and the cherry on top of it all is there are cockoroaches, and I have proof, so please save your money and do not go eat at el pulpo tapas bar sincerely one greatly unsatisfied...
