WARNING TO OTHER BRIDES DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL!! Here is the email I just sent to the manager about our disastrous stay here. We had a room block for our wedding weekend. On Saturday, we had booked a room from 5-5:30 to do our rehearsal, we went down to the tavern to have a quick drink beforehand, the bartender while at first she was nice, quickly became overwhelmed but then was very rude and unprofessional. She was on speaker phone making drinks for our party yelling at someone on the phone, literally screaming "HELLO?" crouching down behind the bar to talk on the phone. Our group went down to the rehearsal room, which was locked, when I checked in no one mentioned if I needed to have a special room key for this or what the deal was, luckily a worker was walking by and was able to let us in. After the rehearsal our party went back to the tavern for a few drinks to be met with the same angry bartender who did not know how to make any drinks, she was googling how to make common drinks. She kept taking guests' cards and walking away, we had to hound her to get some of the credit cards back. We all went down to Esca for our rehearsal dinner which ended at 9:30 and came back to the tavern for a glass of wine to end the night as it was still open, the same bartender moaned and groaned when we walked in and said "here's a bottle of wine TO GO" since she did not want us in there. Given the extremely expensive rates our guests paid as well as it being Labor day weekend and my literal wedding, I expect good service for myself and my party. This was nothing of the sort.
After our wedding on Sunday, we had our after party booked in the tavern from 11-1 AM. I had NO issue with sharing this space with the other after party, however, there was a sign as guests checked in on Sunday that said our after party was on the second floor. No one had made me aware of this change but given both after parties were on the larger side potentially the hotel thought it might be a good idea to split things up or give us more space. This was NOT the case, I had to go up to the front desk and ask what was going on and they just said it was a "misprint" so I had several confused guests running upstairs and some that even left to go home because they were confused. The hotel did not try to redirect people appropriately or put a sign on the second floor of the mistake. Our party then went into the tavern which had been completely taken over by the other after-party, which again I would have NO problem with if one of the bartenders tried to make an effort to assist our party given I had to pay a designated bartender fee for another bartender to be there for 2 hours. Instead of trying to accommodate us, they told us to go "try and get a drink" which is not a good solution. I was also trying to ask the front desk manager how the bar was supposed to know that my party got to the $500 minimum so I wouldn't be charged the difference and he shrugged his shoulders and said he "thought" it was collective between my party and the other party, which again no one made me aware of. Given all this chaos, my party ended up sitting on the restaurant side of the tavern and begged the bartender to just bring us out some bottles of wine so that our guests didn't have to wait hours for drinks, especially since we only had 2 hours. At this point, some of the guests were so fed up they just went up to their rooms, left, or went to another bar, which was devastating to me given this was my WEDDING NIGHT. The other after party proceeded to bring in a GIANT speaker and drown everyone out with Taylor Swift music which is insane, what kind of hotel bar allows guests to bring in a giant speaker and play their own music? Towards the end of the night at 12:40, the front desk manager told us we had to leave, which again made no sense since the after party ended at 1 AM. N Nothing made any sense, was complete chaos, and honestly was a nightmare ending to what otherwise was an almost...
Read moreThis restaurant has been recommended to me many times by several people but unfortunately it was a great disappointment. With all the options in the City of Middletown this was definitely one of the worst I've ever had. I invited 6 guests to join me for dinner for the holiday season. It took over 30 minutes to be asked what our drink order would be. When the drinks finally came out after another 20 minutes of the seven cocktails that were ordered only 6 came out and we had to wait another 10 minutes for the 7th drink. So after 45 minutes our order was finally taken. One of the guests from the table went to go ask what was taking so long and she found out there was only one bartender, one waitress, and one line cook. Really on a Thursday night with a few large parties and that's all you have on duty? Oh and not only that the manager was off that night you do not leave a staff of only three without a manager to step in and pick up the slack. Finally after an hour and a half our appetizers came period after a little over 2 hours are meal game. With great disappointment most of the food was lukewarm and potatoes were ice cold. Vegetables or not cooked and tasted awful and the spinach was loaded with salt that you couldn't even put it in your mouth. Oh yes I'm going back to the cocktail order one of the drink words was completely wrong of what was requested it wasn't even what we ordered. Two of the people had different drinks that required carbonation in their drinks and they were flat. And instead of getting a regular Coke we got a Diet Coke. Now we did not blame our waitress because honestly she was lovely Pleasant and wanted to do everything she could for us because truthfully it wasn't her fault so she had no support whatsoever. For the price that we paid for 7 people for dinner it was simply not worth it. Food was part two mediocre and a huge waste of money. We were asked if we wanted anything for dessert and there was no way we were going to do that we actually went elsewhere and had coffee and dessert because the meal was enough of a nightmare of what we had to go through. I have absolutely no problem in paying for a meal and even if it is a little higher price than some other choices within that City but this was so not worth it not worth it at all a huge disappointment for a night that we were all excited about it really burst our bubble we will never be going back there and when asked to recommend restaurants in the City of Middletown that will be one that I will recommend people not to go to. This was a belated Christmas celebration for some dear friends I live out of state and we've been through some hard times with loss in our family in the last 5 weeks and we wanted to celebrate their lives and it's unfortunate that this was a big mishap. Somebody needs to look into what is not happening at this restaurant and management needs to be completely blamed. My recommendation is avoid this restaurant at all costs you might as well just open up your car windows and throw a few hundred dollars out the window because that's what we did. So unfortunate and it left a very bad taste in all...
Read moreWe stayed here for my cousin's wedding at a nearby venue. We were part of a wedding block.
Let's start with the pros: rooms were lovely, public spaces looked nice, employees were friendly and helpful.
Cons: #1 - Parking is a joke. The lot behind the hotel is mostly reserved for other businesses. The front of the hotel has a little horseshoe driveway where they have valet parking. Unfortunately, the hotel had 2 wedding parties that night which means they were busy and there were buses and shuttles taking up space so nobody could even pull into the driveway without impeding traffic on Main Street. Nobody was able to explain to me where we were supposed to park. We lucked into an unassigned space in back but we would have been screwed if not.
#2 - A fire alarm went off in the middle of us getting ready for the wedding. We were only half dressed and had a schedule to keep to meet our shuttle and we had to evacuate. I would understand if it had been an emergency, but we were told by multiple employees that the fire alarm was triggered by a guest using HAIRSPRAY too close to a smoke detector. Not a hair dryer, not a flat iron, HAIRSPRAY. We were told the fire alarm goes off all the time when people use certain appliances such as an iron too close to them. Curiously, there was mechanical work being done while we were there...
#3 - As I said, there were 2 wedding parties at the inn that night. We tried to go to the bar after we returned from the wedding around 11:30. It wasn't too busy. There was a single bartender and no server. We couldn't even all get drinks. Then the other party started coming in and more people from our wedding came in and it got VERY BUSY. There was nobody to help the bartender, no manager, no server, nobody. It was impossible to get a drink. The girl looked like she was going to cry. We gave up and went back to our room.
#4 - Again, at breakfast, there was only a single server. She was trying but she was not keeping up, even though the breakfast restaurant was very small. There was a manager walking through occasionally but she didn't seem to be doing anything to help.
I realize this is just after the inn reopened from COVID so I'm hoping they're just trying to get back up and running, but this was really a very poor experience and could have been much better if the place was being maintained, managed, and staffed...
