Myself, my family and some friends have had some issues with these guys and our service dogs and them understanding and knowing the laws with service dogs. I understand as people abuse this and claim their pet is a SD and its NOT which is a crime. They also bring their pets to non dog friendly locations. A few years back they completely refused my father in law service due to his service animal which is so illegal its not even funny. Hes a disabled vet and his dog was a fully trained service animal. Recently i went with my hubby and a friend and had my fully trained service dog. She is NOT a pet but a medical device. She had extensive 2 years of training to aid me in my disabilities. After the guy scanned our IDs he advised for us to go sit outside due to my SD. I told him no, and that I would be sitting inside as legally allowed and they could not force us to sit outside. I then advised to have someone come talk to me about it as i understand he just checks people in. I then had a waitress come speak to me and I advised again she was a fully trained SD and was legally allowed to be there. She then went and talked to the owner and came to ask me what tasks she performs which was fine as that is legally able to be asked. I do not put a vest on my SD in general but I do have her leash marked. I appreciated her doing so as it showed she was willing to listen and not jump to breaking state and federal laws. Once i advised of her tasks everything was good. She did advise due to health department which does not apply to real SD as they are not considered dogs but medical devices and are trained accordingly. A pet absolutely would be a health concern as it is at any non dog friendly store. This is why you DONT bring PETS to non dog friendly stores or claim your pet is a SD as it causes issues for us who have a REAL SERVICE DOG. It was much better attitude and behavior than they had with my father in law previously. It was also more professional asking what they legally could and then serving us with no issues. I brought her waterbowl in and they even brought her some water which was appreciated. I feel more education is needed on SD and what they can and cannot legally eenforce. Specifically immediately telling their customers they have to sit outside without knowing if the dog is a SD or pet. If it's a pet and NOT trained per ADA then yes either sit outside or leave your pet at home. However, I appreciated the attitude change from a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreA great place to hang out and meet new people, but poor service and questionable practices will keep them from having success long term. āāāāā Mid City couldn't be more perfect for me: it's nearby, has solid pub grub, and attracts a the 21-35 demographic. That's why I gave it over a dozen tries before taking my business elsewhere.
I'll run the risk of sounding entitled in hopes of offering some objectively true feedback. I hope my experience is an insane mathematical outlier, and they respond to this review in kind.
In short, I believe Mid City is making a calculated move to hire attractive staff that's hurting them performance-wise. Almost uniformly, whether by myself or with friends, female servers have treated us with flippancy, made fundamental mistakes with the order, or blantly tried to rip us off.
On three separate instances collecting to-go food, there were upsold items on our ticket that had been made clear when ordering. For some items, like quesadillas, this increases the item price by 50%. This only happens when ordering to-go, which gives the impression it's intentionalāwhich I hope it's not.
Beyond that, all my complains are anecdotal: servers perpetually ignoring customers for friends, us asking for a check then waiting on a smoke break, or failing to rectify an improper order in hopes batting eyelashes will make it OK.
I wanted nothing more than to make a usual spot of Mid City, even going so far as to exorbitantly tip each time I came in (regardless of the service), but I can't keep extending the benefit of the doubt when there are other solid options nearby.
I give Mid City three starts because local businesses rely on these reviews, and I don't want to discourage travelers from spending their money with independent, Utah entrepreneurs. But for anyone looking to become a regular, I'd go for more reliable...
Read moreUpdate July 30, 2025 Went back and had their "Best Dam Philly" with fries and my coworker had their "High West Bourbon and Bacon Burger" with onion rings. The Philly was great and the pepper taste was spot on...next time I'll ask for some cut up jalapeños to give it a little kick...I'm sure you could also ask for ghost peppers as well, which I would recommend. The High west burger was inhaled .. so yeah ...it was great as well ... the big pieces of bacon really make the burger even better. The onion rings were huge. A plus to anyone that loves them.
Update Nov 25-2024 Went back and had their "Spicy Blackened Ghost Turkey" sandwich...if you like the taste of ghost peppers without the burn before and later, this is a great sandwich... you'll love the taste and would prefer it to a plain turkey sandwich any day. Friend of mine got the "Black and Bleu" hamburger which has more than enough Bleu cheese to satisfy those particular people...he added a Guinness pint which paired well with his meal...again...I'd recommend this place... very nice and the staff was very attentive...check out the pics and decide for yourself.
Wanted to try this place for a while. The burgers did not disappoint. Juicy and full of flavor. The fries are standard bar battered but the onion rings are something else. They are huge. They look like huge donuts or could pass as a bun. They have a wide selection of beers even though I don't drink, my friend had their Heffweizen beer and said it was good...but he never had a beer he didn't like... I suggest trying this place. Good atmosphere. Plenty of tvs for sporting events, outside sitting available. All around a good place. Check it out...
