I hesitated to write such a glowing review for fear I won't be able to get a seat here ever again once word gets out how great it is, but then I remembered I'm visiting from out of town, so I won't have that problem anyway (sorry, Midvale). The restaurant was able to accommodate my family and our friends- 4 adults and 5 kids- who were visiting out of town and tired and cranky from travel. The gentleman who greeted us had a sort of grandfatherly air toward the kids and reached out to shake my son's hand, and was patient when my 9 year old wasn't exactly sure how to return the greeting (we appreciated the brief lesson in etiquette for our son). It made for an immediately warmer and more pleasant experience than most other restaurants I've eaten at (that's saying a lot). But then you go back to your seat and notice everything is pristine and placed just-so, and it's so inviting. The decor and music are both fun and make for a comfortable atmosphere. The dishes were beautiful when served and tasted even better. Let me tell you, my 3 year old is going through a ridiculously picky eating phase- he sat on my lap and ate lamb vindaloo and rice with such relish you'd think he'd been eating it all his life. It was ridiculous how much he enjoyed his meal, and so did I. The kids ate chicken korma, peppered chicken and mango Lassi and my husband had chicken Tikka Masala- all so very good and he said it was the best Tikka Masala he'd eaten. It's a small restaurant but leaves such a nice impression. Long story short, one of best meals I've had eating out. I hope the restaurant...
Read moreI went to this restaurant on a Monday to celebrate my anniversary with my family including my 1 year old. I am an Indian and I was happy to see Punjabi owners at the reception because I expected the food to be good. 5 star rating of this restaurant was another reason that I selected this place.
When we entered the restaurant, the server suggested she would bring water cups with lids for my 1 year old. That cup never was provided to us. Then the server took around 15 mins to come and take our orders. Server came and asked whether we would like Indian spiciness or American. We selected Indian spiciness as per servers suggestion that it would be more spicy than the American one. As Indians, we like more spicy food.. The order took quite some time to come. And the tandoori dish we order tasted like munchoorian with tomato ketchup. It was so sweet which is so opposite to the tandoori spicy recipe. Then server forgot to bring rice and spoons. We didnt have spoons for atleast 10 mins after food arrived. Server was nowhere to be seen to ask for spoons. We also asked for paper paper napkins in the beginning, but it also came almost towards the middle of our food. Food didn't look fresh in taste and also it was totally opposite to the taste of the actual recipe.
To be honest, I dont know how this restaurant can get such high rating as my experience was not so good. The food is pathetic with added poor service . It is hard to go back to that restaurant again. I will never visit this restaurant again and its a puzzle for me to know how this restaurant got such...
Read moreI kid you not, I have eaten here at least three times a week for the past month since discovering this place.
To start, the flavor: I’ve never tasted food with the amount of depth that’s present in Great India’s dishes. Every bite has complex layers that change even after you’ve swallowed. I love guessing the different spices present and really appreciate the generous use of cardamom. They’ve perfected the sought after balance of acid, heat, salt, and fat. I honestly haven’t had this much fun with food in a long time.
Portion size: I can usually get about five to six meals out of two orders. Their generosity with the rice and curries makes for days of enjoyment, at least for me.
Consistency and price: I feel as if each time I order, it gets better and better. I have yet to be disappointed with any new or old dish I try. The meals I choose range about $14-17 which I actually feel is on the low end for the quality and amount. I am obsessed with Great India and because of them, it’s unlocked a new love for Indian food I didn’t know I had. I would recommend them to anyone looking for cuisine that is exciting, fresh, and truly authentic. We love and appreciate...
