Frustrating experience today at this place. There were two of us and we wanted to order sandwiches and eat quickly at the cafe to proceed further but we didn’t expect that we would be stuck at this place for one hour and a half. The place is not welcoming and is not friendly, despite we chose this place for good reviews and vegan food.
We arrived and asked if we can eat something at the place. The waiter/owner/employee told us to scan the barcode and to check the menu. He did not provide any other details or explanation. It is written there that you need actually to scan it and order. There is no printed menu or menu on the blackboard. My family member did so and then received an SMS that the order will be ready in 52 minutes. The order was placed at 2 pm and should be picked up at 2:52 pm. In case of problems there was a phone number which we had to call. We called this number to cancel the order as waiting time was too long but no one responded and we just left a message on the voicemail. Time passed by. The waiter was not seen at his desk and we decided to send an sms but then no one responded again at the end. We decided to wait until the order will be ready at 2:52 pm. I approached the front desk at 2.52pm and spoke with the waiter but he said that the order was not ready yet. I told him that we wanted to cancel the order, but no one picked up the phone and no one responded to our SMS. He seemed to be angry that we didn’t approach him and he said that he did not really pick up the phone when he works and we should not call him. It seems that there are contradictions and some gaps in the protocol how this place operates. We followed exactly the guidance which we received in the SMS and if the waiter or the owner does not respond to customer calls, in this case it should be indicated in sms: in case of any problems contact the front desk instead of calling. The place was almost empty when we arrived and it was pretty empty during our stay. There were two girls waiting for their order ahead of us and a lady who came to pick up her order. Meanwhile, the waitor saw us, he definitely knew that we were waiting for the order but he has never actually approached us asking if we would need anything etc. My family member needed urgently food due to health issues and as a result we had to order coffee and a brownie. In addition to the original order around 30 $ we paid additional $12 for coffee and sweet dessert.
If the place lacks human resources, it should optimise work or hire someone else in addition. Customers should not waste their time and should not suffer because the owner or the waiter had to do everything and he is the only one in the shop. When we ordered food we didn’t know about it and we received completely misleading guidance by SMS. In addition, the place is not super clean because, as I understand, there are no resources to do everything. To find a toilet is a quiz too because there is no indication on the door that this is actually WC (see photo).
We placed the order at 2:00 pm and our two sandwiches were delivered at 3:08 pm. This is really really ridiculous for two sandwiches. I will never come back again to this place, and I strongly recommend the owner, the management or whoever to reconsider working arrangements at this place to make them more welcoming, friendly and clear for customers.
The waitor told me to come there next time but I told him loudly in front of all customers that there will not be second time.
For those who wants to eat healthier: this place does not sell sandwiches or burgers with whole grain bread/bun. You have regular white bread/bun choice only. Basicly, Subway could be even a better option in terms of time, customer service and variety of ingridients.
I tried a small piece of brownie and it was super sweet and sugar bomb. I refrained from second bite because it was...
Read moreTheory: 100% vegan restaurants have to be fantastic so non-vegans will eat there too since there aren't enough vegans (yet) to keep all vegan places going. Evidence: Sweet Hazel exceeded our expectations! Again, and again, every time!! The food is always AMAZING! Today we drove 8 hours with minimal stops to arrive in time for early dinner and were completely rewarded. My husband is sold on the ranch burger; 2 times in a row, it has all the flavors of the best burger he has ever had. Ge loves it!! I tried the ranch chicken for the first time and adored the combination of flavors. Even the bun was toasted and plant buttered to perfection! We got to meet the chef and she was a delight, as is everyone on the staff!! Last time we got up at 5 am to arrive before closing, since we had a long drive. I had the lunch special, chicken picatta. It was even better than when my mom used to make it- partly because Instead of being coated in a stick of butter, the fillet was light, flavorful and served in a delicious broth. I also had a cannoli - my first since becoming vegan. I grew up in an Italian neighborhood in NYC and canolli were a part of my childhood. Their cannoli was perfect - the shell was crispy and flakey, and the filling so delicious. They fill it fresh to order, which is how all the top bakeries do it. Incredible!! My husband devoured his teriyaki burger before I could ask for a taste... I think that's high praise! And we had the better than sex cake. The chocolate cake was the richest, moistest chocolate cake I think I have ever had. Plant curious non-vegans, this IS the place to try dessert!! And entrees too. Our lunch was so good that we bought their to-go chickpea salad for lunch tomorrow. We're road tripping or we'd just eat there again in person. Btw, for folks passing through the SLC corridor, Sweet Hazel is super easy to get to from I-15. And the staff were super friendly and considerate. This is a great place that leaves me excited for my return trip so I can eat here again ☺️ whether we have to get up at 5am or limit our breaks on a long drive, Sweet Hazel is...
