I had been purchasing a loaf of Leavityās Sourdough Bread (at Caputoās) every week for several weeks. My family and I have been thoroughly impressed by the flavor, texture, crumb, and crust of each and every loaf. We were always so happy with each experience and felt like Leavity definitely knocked it out of the park with every loaf because it reminded us of what weād enjoyed in Europe.
Shame on me for not realizing earlier that Leavity has a retail space open to the public! I first stumbled upon their Instagram page (ah, the power of social media!) and then visited their website. Based upon the site and my previous experiences enjoying their loaves, I already knew I would be impressed by whatever they had to offer. What an under statement! Since I live downtown, the drive to their store was short. I was blown away by the bountiful assortment of gorgeous, deeply browned loaves available for retail sale. I feel like many Americans expect bread to be very pale on the outside and squishy on the inside, which makes me sad. However the assortment of Leavityās artisan breads would bring a happy tear to even the pickiest of French Boulangers. The high quality flours, the long, slow fermentation, a great oven, and an expert touch all serve to create what I consider to be bread perfection with loaves that sport a deeply caramelized exterior and that wonderful chewy interior.
On my first trip of this week into Leavity, I thoroughly enjoyed my incredible baguette, salami, and cheese sandwich (served with a small, peppery arugula side salad) so much that I couldnāt get it out of my mind for the next few days. I had to go back.
For a 2nd time this week, I ventured back to Leavity and enjoyed another lunch sandwich. This time I opted for a classic French-style butter and ham sandwich. While a sandwich like this might sound a bit simple to some, I would tell you with conviction that the magnificent sum of this creation was far greater than what one might imagine from its 3 āsimpleā ingredient components. This lunchtime treat was definitely better than any Iād ever had on over a dozen trips to France. (And Iāve had plenty).
The absolute highlight of my 2nd trip to Leavity was meeting Todd, the owner and creative genius behind all this remarkable bread. Weād never met before, and I feel grateful he took a few moments to share his personal story and offer some insight on the high quality flours, coffee, charcuterie, etc he so proudly utilizes. His commitment to his craft isnāt lost on me and is evidenced by the highest quality bread products he so proudly makes.
Todd gifted me a baguette to take home. I got to enjoy it my favorite way: with a generous slather of cultured butter + a sprinkle of course-flake sea salt. Very simple but total heaven for me!
I hope everyone makes a pilgrimage to Leavity or finds a convenient retailer where Toddās artisan breads can be purchased. Leavity is a total gem and SLC is lucky to have access to such high quality artisan breads.
Thank you Todd! Iāll be back again soon. Maybe 3 times this next week?!

Ā Ā Ā Read moreGreat people, great bread, great vibes. I love Leavity! I buy their sourdough as a gift for guest speakers each month when I host large meetings at work. Itās such a treat to give something locally made, and the bread is incredible. (I also stop by Caputoās sometimes just to pick it up, since Leavity delivers fresh bread there daily.) Every time I visit the bakery, the staff is warm, kind, and efficient.
I also stayed once to enjoy their bread by the slice in the cafƩ. During this visit, the owner, Todd, was going table to table, listening to folks stories and personally thanking them for supporting his business. It was really cool to see that kind of thoughtful effort to connect with the community, and also make regular folks feel like they were VIPs
I rave about Leavity every chance I get and always encourage friends, family, and coworkers to...

When we saw the owner Toddās introduction on the website, we knew we had to go there. Todd was inspired to bake long fermented sourdough when he visited Europe. He has perfected the art. OMG. We bought a loaf of the cranberry walnut sourdough and it was amazing. We also had avocado toast and a raspberry chocolate scone. We went two days in a row. Kendra and Quest were so friendly and accommodating and they made excellent Americanos. While we were eating, Todd came out and checked on us to see how everything was. We were so pleased to meet Todd in person! Leavity Bread and Coffee is a destination worthy of a trip. We...
