Hate to leave this review but very disappointing meal. Ordered Chicken Curry with plain naan. There were multiple issues with this meal along with a couple positive notes. First the entree. The chicken itself was fresh and tender. But the overall dish was not tasty at all. The curry wasn't the best tasting curry, but what made it nearly inedible was the unbelievable amount of salt. By far the saltiest tasting food I have ever had. Had to pull the chicken out of the sauce. It was that bad. Even withouth the salty taste it wasn't the most pleasant curry I've had. The naan....not inedible but some of the worst I've had at a restaurant. Very dense. Odd color. A bit greasy. Almost like it was pan fried instead of baked in a tandoor oven. Very thin, no bubbles, unrisen and flat. Not appetizing on its own and definately could not dip it in that salty curry. On a positive note...they included some tasty mint chutney in the order in which I could dip the naan in which made it worth eating. If not for that very good chutney, the naan would have been wasted. Now, the rice. This is where I am a bit upset. It was not basmati rice. It was good ole plain long grain white rice. And to top that off, it was incredibly oily. A thick film of oil is at the bottom of the container. Absolutely no aromatics to this rice at all. I tasted and smelled it over and over again. It was plain white rice. Cheap. If it was in fact basmati rice then they have the worst basmati ever because it is so plain. I ordered from here because Door Dash reviews had it at a 4.8. Sadly it really missed the mark for me.

Was in SLC for a conference and wanted to eat here on my way to the airport. The place is kinda sketchy in a run down building. But the restraunt itself is not too bad, needs a little bit more cleaning though (especially the bathrooms, which sucked). Regarding the food, I only tried the Chicken Tikka Masala and Naan. Both were amazingly delicious. The curry was perfectly flavored, not too spicy (they'd ask for your preference, which is nice). Honestly, one of the best Tikka Masala I've ever had. The naan was also soft and perfectly baked. The rice that accompanied curry was kinda weird, though. I believe they added a bit of oil to make the rice flaky, but it gave me the sense that it's stale. Finally, tried their gulab jamun, which was also quite delicious. I assume they made it fresh. The service was also nice; the lady who took my order was pretty friendly. The restaurant deserves to be in a better environment.

I recently dined at Star of India, and I have to say, this place exceeded all my expectations. We started with the vegetable samosas, and they were, hands down, the best I’ve had in a long time. The crispy exterior and perfectly spiced filling made them an absolute must-try. For the main course, the Goat Masala and the Garlic naan were a standout. It's easily the best I’ve ever had, with tender pieces of goat in a richly spiced, flavorful sauce that was simply unforgettable. The Lamb Biryani was also a hit, with beautifully cooked rice and tender lamb, full of vibrant flavors. The service at Star of India was impeccable. The staff was attentive, friendly, and eager to ensure that we had a great dining experience. If you’re a fan of Indian cuisine, this place is a must-visit in SLC!!! Don’t just a book by its cover, what’s inside is well worth the visit!

My family and I tried this restaurant for the first time last night. We were celebrating a birthday and there were 9 of us. I'll start by saying that it took at least 3-4 minutes for us to even be greeted at the front desk. There were only about 3 tables with 3-4 people at each at the restaurant at the time. It was not busy. Then we came to find out no tables had been pushed together even though we called in the make a reservation prior to coming in (about 1.5 - 2 hours before). So one of our group members had to push tables together. 5 of us showed up first and we specifically said we'd like to order appetizers right away before the other people get there because we knew some guests would be late. It took the server ten minutes to bring us water and another five to take our appetizer order (we had to wave at her to get her to come over) and we were starving. The appetizers themselves were great. At this point we already knew the service would be average and that we would just have to make due with that even though we all considered moving the dinner to a different restaurant. Our water pitchers were NEVER refilled and when you have 3 pitchers for 9 people you can pretty much assume they will need to be at some point. One of our group members ordered a mixed drink and had to wait TWENTY FIVE minutes for it. Seriously? I have never had to wait that long for anything at a restaurant except for food (especially one with so many stars) considering how few customers were there. When the rest of our group arrived, it took literally another 20 minutes to place our order. No one ever came to check on us. We spent a total of two and a half hours at this place. We literally had to ask for every specific thing and had to wave the server over to place our order. Our appetizer plates were not cleared until our meals came out so we all had to stare at our empty appetizer plates for 30-40 minutes. We spent a total of TWO AND A HALF HOURS at this restaurant. Not because we wanted to but because the service was so terribly slow. Our server disappeared about halfway through our time there and someone else took over without even a word. Even though she did start cleaning the floor with the most disgusting smelling cleaner right next to our table even though they were not even close to closing time and the floor was not dirty. My mom had such a terrible allergic reaction she could not breathe through her nose. That is just unnecessary. I do want to note that the food was good (which is why I gave 3 stars) and everyone at our table seemed satisfied with it. I can't end this review before discussing the bathrooms. The restaurant is located inside of a Ramada hotel. The bathrooms for patrons of the restaurant, are located just a few steps away inside the hotel. I have never ever been in such a disgusting bathroom before, not even on a road trip at a truck stop. There was no toilet paper in two of the stalls, one of the toilets was so backed up there was fecal matter in the toiler, on the floor, all over the toilet, the walls. There was blood on the floor. One of the stalls would not lock. I was so repulsed that I did not use the bathroom the entire time I was at the restaurant. I know that it may not be the restaurant's fault that the bathrooms were so bad, that's mainly the hotel's fault, but it is the restaurant's responsibility to periodically check the bathroom to make sure it is clean and suitable for their customers buying the food that is really not cheap for the portion. Overall, I would not return to this restaurant. I would maybe consider getting takeout but that would also not be likely. If you made it to the end of this, great. I hope the service has improved if you...

This place is an Absolute GEM. The food is Made To Order and arrives fresh, hot, and Delicious. There’s a reason this place has ranked in Utah’s top 10 restaurants consistently for DECADES. This isn’t some cheap takeout that’s made days in advance and reheated for 5 minutes when people order. Star of India combines exotic Eastern spices and international ingredients to create homemade Indian cuisine. You can’t go wrong here. EVERY dish is a winner. The portions are fantastic and the prices are amazing. Don’t be fooled by critics of their entree prices, you get a ton of food and it’s more than enough for TWO meals. The attention to detail is incredible, every single thing is produced at the highest level. The variety of chutneys is delightful and delicious. Even the rice by itself is impossibly delicious, seasoned and buttery. You can tell they’re putting love into every dish. They also offer every possible level of heat from very mild to extra extra hot and everything in between. If you’re not eating here you are missing out on a culinary experience that invigorates all your senses. The clientele are as varied as the menu, young adventurous hipsters, professional men & women in suits & slacks, stylish ladies who lunch, LDS families, and country folk that love a good home cooked meal. Get the Garlic Naan Bread AND the Chicken Tikka Masala, it’s enough for TWO and you’ll both be very full. Fair warning, you will become an INSTANT returning customer. Star of India is EASILY in the top 5 restaurants in this...
