Anna's House of Milford day 2.
Preface: If I sound picky, it is because Anna's brand infers elevation.
Bright atmosphere from the counter. Booths were a 30 minute wait at 11am.
Order: ●Loaded Breakfast Tots ●Con Miel Latte ●Corned Beef Benny ●Monte Cristo w/ side of bacon
Appetizer was a nice shift from usual breakfast fair. We walked into the experience assuming a certain level near the Breakfast Club of Commerce. The Tots are nice and pair well with the hollandaise. This is just a nit pick, but the two together are too similar. If the holladaise were instead a touch sweet or acidic (touch of honey mustard vs the poblano) it would kick off.
My coffee lover fiance got the Con Miel, and she said it was a nice cup. Admittedly she is a Biggby fan, so it is hard to appease the caffeine addict 1-to-1. It was fun watching the staff learn the pours.
Our waitress sold us on the Corned Beef Benny, and she hasn't missed. Check the photos. I had a small bite, and if the Corned Beef came solo on a plate I would never fit out the door. The eggs were perfect and I am told the English muffin was still crispy despite sauce, egg, and juicy corned beef. Verdict is $15.50 well spent.
Initially I ordered the Chicken and Waffles, but sadly they ran out of chicken. Runner up was the Monte Cristo. The plate looks beautiful. Admittedly the Word of Mouth in Salem broke the bar on Monte Cristos. I opted for the America fries. They were perfectly cooked, but to be honest I could leave them. The sandwich was more on the side of a grilled cheese or hot ham & cheese than a french toast blend. When I saw raspberry, I expected a bit of tartness from the sauce. This is no fault but my own as I google educate on what a Melba is. The dish is good, but $14 good? I did order a side of bacon, and I want to note that the bacon was made to order, fresh off the press. Part of the indicator was the amount of grease on the plate.
Like other reviews, the portion sizes are slightly larger than expected. Service is prompt with just the right approach. They proved to be calm under learning conditions and in a new environment. Admittedly the counter wasn't wiped before we sat, but business is so packed, fast, and the staff are all finding their place. Wait staff are friendly and knowledgeable. The back of house appear to be professional on top of their game. At one point I could hear the chef calling back an order to make it perfect. The back of house are operating at a high level. Overall no one is panicked, bored, or uninterested. The hostesses function well and there is even a yelp app to assist with seating times.
Regarding decor and environment, it is a direct polar opposite of the previous Hector & Jimmy's. Once a dark dungeon, there is now natural light and a well designed theme throughout. My only complaint would be the general debris left behind by patrons. It would be a job onto itself keeping floors and surfaces visually clear and staff already have their hands full.
TL:DR The total experience is on another level beyond greasy spoon, diner, or typical coney island. That being said, this is reflected in the price. After tip, the above was $75. It is tough to gauge if this is appropriate for the time (inflation, better pay, ingredients, presentation, high functioning staff) but a $75 breakfast for...
Read moreI’ve visited this restaurant three times and feel a duty to inform people considering eating here. The very first time, I got the vegan big breakfast and it was awesome. Their vegan menu is what drew me to them. The atmosphere is amazing!
The second time I ordered carry out only and bought a Western omelet for my mom. She experienced full blown food poisoning in the middle of the night through to the next day. It’s confirmed that she got it from the omelette meal because she only eats once a day, hence it being the only possible cause.
My third and final visit, I dined in again and got the vegan big breakfast. The vegan sausage this time tasted identical to real sausage. Being vegan for 9 years, it’s easy for me to tell the difference. My friend who had regular sausage also tasted it for me and said the same. Although it may not have been literal real sausage, it was cooked directly in a lot of sausage grease at the very least.
The manager that my server reported it to was unpleasant and combative. I understand my sternness, based on my disappointment from my moms food poisoning prior and now this negligent handling of vegan food, may have been uncomfortable for the manager to deal with as I said I would not be coming back. She informed me that all food is cooked on the same grill and she sees no issue with that, even though they have the ability to cook vegan food separately. She stated that it’s the customer’s responsibility to find that out and request vegan or allergen food be cooked separate. I don’t believe Anna’s House should put that burden solely on the customer, especially not a restaurant that has a vegan menu. The disregard that caused the cook to not clear the grill of meat grease, at the very least, does little to encourage your vegan customers to trust that their dietary choices will...
Read moreWanted to give this place a try since it’s stuck around but what a waste of time and money. Arrived at 8am and didn’t leave until 9:15 as a party of 5 — mind you there were maybe 3 tables total when we arrived so being busy not the issue here. Food took absolutely forever and showed up with random modifications (ex: egg whites for kids scrambled eggs, gravy on a biscuit that was ordered as the side of toast for an omelette, fried eggs instead of poached, cream cheese in addition to the Monterrey Jack that was subbed out on an omelette) things that wouldn’t necessarily have been worth mentioning, especially since the food took as long as it did. That is, until we received the bill and the upcharge associated with kids egg whites, cheese “addition” and sausage gravy on the side of a biscuit — I felt like I was being gaslit by the server as if he wanted to see if I would notice or just think I ordered these things on purpose... My FIL orders poached eggs due to a medical condition so when fried eggs arrived I asked that they be recooked — our server returned with a new plate of fried eggs and snarkily asked me if they were “acceptable” to which I (as genuinely as possible) asked if the kitchen didn’t know what poached eggs were. He said they don’t make poached, only “basted”. my FIL did his best to eat what he could but I couldn’t believe they didnt take them off the bill. The service was poor, the food is mediocre (at best) and the ambiance feels like it belongs at an amusement park not in the quaint village of Milford. My husband (who is much more tolerant of mistakes, service attitude and delays) got in the car and said “I can tell you this much, we will NEVER be back there”. Support local businesses (shoutout Dimitris & Americus) over this...
