You know when you really like a restaurant but then they mess up so bad and it gives you the ICK?! Yeah. That’s what happened to me with this spot unfortunately. My partner and I have visited this place multiple times, usually dining in and every so often ordering take out. She usually gets a burrito supremo and is satisfied. However after tonight, I’d never come to this establishment again. The other reviews left here only reassure me that I was not in the wrong tonight. We decided to order take out from here. The chicken that was served in her burrito was old, dry, and she was even confused if it was chicken at one point thinking it was pork from the texture and taste and color. We kindly asked the restaurant if it was possible to get a refund for the meal, seeing as she was not pleased with the taste and quite frankly after tasting it myself, I wouldn’t have let her eat that anyways because it tasted like days old chicken. And for the amount of MONEY this restaurant charges for their food, it’s surprising they treated us the way they did. The lady who rang me out (the name was “Rudy ;)” on the receipt) when I picked up the order handled our complaint over the phone very unprofessionally. I’ve worked in the restaurant business and I’d never fix my lips to speak to any customer in that way, let alone one asking for a refund knowing damn well it doesn’t come from my paycheck. She essentially exchanged pictures through text messages comparing the chicken that looked like it was being cooked freshly in their kitchen to the brownish dry spoiled one in the burrito we were served. She said the only way to get a refund was to drive back to the restaurant. After driving 15 minutes home, I had to drive 15 back to get my money back. Once I got there, for her own satisfaction, this woman really grabbed a fork and knife to split this burrito open and point out that it wasn’t pork and in fact chicken. I told her I was aware it was chicken and my partner couldn’t decipher what meat this was from the strange taste and color, but that it tasted like OLD and DRY chicken. She proceeded to tell me how to order MY food as if I haven’t ordered this same burrito before without a problem. She wouldn’t let me speak, felt that she had to emphasize how I should order MY food, and ultimately I just reiterated how I wanted my money back without a lecture. $34 later, for a burrito served with days old chicken asking to give you food poisoning, and some queso dip that was mediocre at best. You can DEFINITELY get better service, better food, within 5 miles from this place at numerous establishments. The people who work here carry a sense of entitlement and lack of appreciation for the few customers that they have. Never again will I willingly give this place my money, and neither should you. The shredded beef was extremely greasy and loaded with a red sauce that didn’t taste that great to begin with and was just cheap Americanized MX food quality that was NOT pretty coming out the other end all morning! FTR, a month of authentic MX food IN Mexico did not do that to me even once. And in response to owner re: guac, I’m aware prices are on the menu, however I approached & asked waitress after the menu was gone for some guac on my tacos. I would have appreciated a warning that it would cost as much as an entire lunch! Nowhere have I ever paid that much for a little add of guac. Plus, if I wanted a little pico de gallo on them it was a whole other upcharge. I’m not even comparing prices with MX. I can get great Mex in Manhattan for less than that! This place is ridiculous. I’d previously considered coming back for that meal in all the posters but since the waitress did mention that was greasy, I shudder to imagine now. I had 3 incredible fish tacos (not 2 with nasty rice n cheap beans) with guac and cabbage and pico at a restaurant by the beach a few days ago for

Let me start off by saying these servers deserve the world, and this is definitely a management problem. The restaurant is sorely understaffed, with people coming in consistently and only two servers covering a packed bar, restaurant, and patio. The emphasis here is on the short grift: by getting people in the doors to pay high prices for bad food, and then never see them again.
We should have left when we had to wait 20 minutes to talk to anyone for a table, but my partner and I have been meaning to try this place. The prices are astronomical - a SIDE order of refried beans is $8. None of the entrees are less than $20.
We waited another 20 minutes to order by a very kind but exasperated server who apologized for the wait. My partner ordered a combo with an enchilada, and I ordered the chicken tortilla soup. We didn’t order drinks knowing we would never get them.
The food came within a reasonable time, but it looked like it had been sitting under a lamp. My partners’ meal was okay. The rice was dry and quite flavorless. It was served with a very odd and soggy coleslaw. The refried beans were adequate.
My $12 tortilla soup was…..raw? It’s hard to describe. I love tortilla soup, and it is a consistently safe choice at any new Mexican restaurant I try. Here, the broth was flavorless besides SALT - more like a brine than a soup. The tomatoes and onion were raw, like they had been thrown in as an afterthought rather than having their flavor developed in the soup as one would expect. The chicken was the best part, which is not saying much as it was just shredded boiled chicken, but there was so little of it that it was comical. Top it off with fresh avocado and some tortilla strips and i guess it makes a $12 soup. Presentation was lovely! But you can’t eat presentation.
It was when we were waiting for our check that we read some of the other reviews, that the management expects servers to pay out of pocket for the things they take off a customer’s bill. What a repulsive practice. As a former waitress and bartender - if you’re considering working here, RUN. If you’re considering eating here, you’d do better to slip a server a $20 and then hit a food truck - you’d get a better meal and not feel so...
