Please see the end of THIS review for an update This is the first time getting food there. This place was recommended by a coworker.
The beef Empanada was very good. If you like spicy, I would suggest getting hot sauce. It is not at all spicy. I read that amidst the description on the menu, I believe.
Then I got a $5.00 bowl of rice with ummm, pigeon peas? It was an 8oz serving, but to give them credit, they did pack it in. It was mild in flavor, but it did help fill me up.
I also got a Chalupa, I wanted to try a few things. Since this was my first time, I read the menu carefully and asked questions when ordering. I was under the impression, by what I was told, and read that the Chalupa came with lettuce, tomato, sour cream, and cheddar cheese. I asked her to leave off the lettuce when ordering, and she assured me that there wouldn't be any. However, there was a ton on it, and additional overflowing in the container. My fear of lettuce turned into a nightmare! While doing some much needed scraping, I saw a tiny bit of sour cream and something runny and light yellow. I asked myself with much interest, "What the heck is that?" Is it spoiled sour cream, weird mayonnaise, or perhaps Aioli sauce? Nope, none of those.....it was "cheddar cheese." Nope, not cheddar cheese like I expected, but Queso. Now, the good American that I am was surely not looking for it to be Queso, a very mild tasting Queso at that.
One last thing I purchased was a piece of "chocolate" cake. I emphasize chocolate because, by the name of it, which escapes me at the moment, I had hoped for a rich chocolate experience to finish off my meal. But I bit into a lightweight of flavor and density of a cake.
To sum up my experience, I would have to say....I was disappointed. I did manage to pick off all the lettuce, got somewhat filled by rice, ate the whole Empanada after adding a bit of hot sauce, and ate a few bites of cake.
I hope I don't sound unfair with my review, I just say things as honestly as I taste and see. I have been doing reviews in many places for a long time now. Will I give them another try, probably. However, now I am armed with knowledge of what to expect and order accordingly.
UPDATE I returned for a second try....I have to say...IT WAS AMAZING!! I am not sure what happened the first time, but I will definitely go back again. I added NEW pictures of what I had. You must try this place. The atmosphere was relaxed, ppl were eating at tables, and I even had a great conversation with other ppl eating in. I hope you enjoy my added pictures. Oh....I took some to my 83-year-old Dad and he said.."Wow, where did you get this and what is the address so I can go"!
Happy eating and reviewing...
Read moreI accidentally found this 💎 gem!!!! I think that's how I usually find the BEST places honestly 🤔 lol ..... Its off the beaten path n it is totally worth finding... I went in just for some fresh coffee ☕️ 😋... I always say local coffee is the best coffee ☕️ 😋!!! So I got something that was similar to Mexican horchatta in a ice coffee, even Starbucks got their own rendition but I find that again, local small places are cheaper n way stronger n more robust in flavors. Their prices were 😲 incredible like this drink is like 6 or 7 at the chain places, this cost me 3 here for a large large!!!! N I saw all their deserts , I wish I would have taken pictures 📸... their restaurant side was PACKED and i could see why.. I looked at their take out menu .... their food was plentiful and ridiculously under priced for what I saw them serving!!!! Their sandwiches looked soooooo fresh, like it was off a commercial, u know what im talking about, so fresh it's fake lol 😆.... but no it was very real lol ... they were hearty sized sandwiches 🥪!!! I just could've believe the prices n sizes and more ppl just kept coming in .... its so nice to see that despite the fact that they r well known n got good business they r still making fresh fresh food n not cutting corners... I asked the one young lady who was serving the take out coffee bistro side but there was a language barrier so she had someone come talk to me and I asked the lady and yeah they stuck true to home made everything, family ran and operated. Kudos 👏 to this family living their dream and these ladies supporting their families and creating ❤️ their dreams!!!! Please stop in when u r getting gas on your way home from the beach like I did... I promise u will not be...
Read moreOrdered the Ube Mascarpone Cake for the first time. The flavor was very good, and the presentation was beautiful. The only downside was towards the middle of the cake the layers were slightly frozen giving an icy feel when chewing. I know it is mentioned to eat at room temperature, I had their cakes both ways (straight from the refrigerator and at room temp), but this was a frozen texture unfortunately and wasn't expecting it as I never had this issue before with their cake slices. Edit: Thank you for taking the time to reply. I saw that my comment was screenshot and came up on my homepage of Facebook. I usually don't comment but this came up on my feed Kind of sad the comments on this review with people calling me stupid. If read correctly, what I was saying that the cake was still frozen. There is a difference between a frozen cake in the refrigerator that didn't have the time to get to refrigerated temp/texture and a refrigerated cake that is thawed. I gave 4 stars out of 5, But as you see in the screenshot that was covered up that you posted on Facebook. You can eat refrigerated cake without it being ice-like in texture. Sad that we are bashing customers by posting it on Facebook. Very immature. Will not be visiting this establishment in the future. Unfortunately people do not do their research to see I gave you 4 stars instead of 1. I used to love coming here, not anymore. Due to this I'll be changing my...
